Since I obviously missed this earth shattering news event, can you please provide a link that states we are not free to speak our mind as we wish.

Until you're shouting fire in a theater. What did the judge say about indecency? Something like "I can't tell you what it is but, I can tell you when I see it"?

Yeah, people died so that others can legally exercise their rights as ignorantly as they choose. I wouldn't wait for a freedom to be one I'd want to exercise before I'd be willing to die to preserve it.

Hey, at least we have founding documents to go by. I like to imagine what it must have been like for the people who had to live among others who just wanted to bow to England. How many families were probably divided and torn apart by it?

I wonder how much it was like being around pro Countdown people today who willingly bow to the NHRA?

Your rights end where other's rights begin. Racist remarks have been protected by the first ammendment when the remarks are broad and general, addressing a whole group rather than an individual member of the group.

For instance I can say I hate everyone who eats green gummi bears, and there is not a darn thing anyone can do about it.

But if I say I hate John Doe because he is a green gummi bear eater right to his face, then that is not protected speech and is technically a hate crime or misdemeanor assault.

And as litigous as America has become, don't assume because you did not commit a crime with something you said that there won't be civil ramifications. I would not be surprised if Dog's son and his girlfriend sue Dog for emotional pain and suffering.

EDIT: after following the link and listening to the full version of the tape, Dog broke the law. He threatened multiple people's employment for hanging out with a black girl and his son's if she remained his girlfriend. Can't do that ...

He broke the law but, I don't think it could be used in court since he was being recorded without his knowledge. I don't think it's illegal to record someone without their knowledge but, I don't think you can prosecute them based on it.

Since the son is making a profit on his father's words, I wonder if the father can say that's his property that was recorded without his knowledge? I remember a story about Waylon Jennings staying with Willie Nelson. Waylon told Willie about a song he'd just written. Willie wanted to know if any part of it was written while on his property. Waylon quickly said something like "No, I started it while in the store and finished it just before pulling into your driveway."

That is a weird one. He says "they" don't mean anything bad by it. Do you not get a sense of betrayal on the part of the son? I mean, he was explaining that he didn't want her around because he knew they were a liability because of their use of the word, not just because SHE was black. It's just ironic how he was saying in that very tape how that could never get out, how he knew they'd be judged.

That, or I'm just suffering from "in the Countdown majority" guilt and need to find the other side of the fence on an issue! (I KNEW I could work Countdown in there! NHRA should hire me as an announcer!) I'm guessing it's kinda like rich person's guilt but, I can only guess right now!

He was in a private conversation with his son and its NOBODY'S business what he says to his son .

If someone says something about you and you take offence to it that means you morethen likely resemble the remark .

Funyn thing is the people who ahve pulled his show are the same people who will use the exact same word when a person of color cuts in line in front of them at wal mart or rear end them at a stop light .

You've got a good point. If a black person's using the same word and we can make money off of it? The same "leaders" are not going to be calling for protests.

I mean, I don't understand the logic behind the word being in his vocabulary if he doesn't mean anything derogatory when he says it. At the same time, he told his son that they use the word, they don't mean blah, blah, "scum without a soul." I guess that was the redeeming quality of the conversation? Whew! Makes you wonder what it's gotta be like to be an attorney and have to defend someone you don't agree with.

I just think the son's as guilty as he is, if not more. Again, while it's weird logic, he WAS explaining to him why he couldn't have her around, and only doing it because he thought the person he was talking to was someone he could trust. Saying over and over again how it could never get out, while saying it to the very person who was going to cause it to get out.

It's obvious that the logical solution would have been to clean up their own act instead of "We break the law around here and we have to have conditions that accomodate it." I'm sure he knows that now. Weird little habit to lose your livelihood over.

I even wondered if it could be possible that they were all in on it for one big cashout from the Enquirer. Maybe he was ready to retire, anyways.

Yeah, I know it's like discussing honor amongst criminals. I believe the son's betrayal means nothing to people because, as far as being famous goes, he's nothing. I happen to think that people should be in just as much of an uproar against the Enquirer for making such betrayal profitable. I think they're as guilty as "Dog" is. I know, ain't gonna happen!

For the record, I am not a fan of "the Dog" or his show, and don't care what he says either in his personal life or his "celebrity" life. This was a family matter that should have been resolved within the family but his a-hole son had to air the dirty laundry for all to see.

There was no law broken, no "hate crime" committed here. Just a white trash family who can't deal with their sudden popularity and are screaming for attention and money and a public audience who is so hungry for any scandal to make their own dysfunctional lives look normal in comparison.

For the record, I am not a fan of "the Dog" or his show, and don't care what he says either in his personal life or his "celebrity" life. This was a family matter that should have been resolved within the family but his a-hole son had to air the dirty laundry for all to see.

I definitely think he broke one or more laws by telling his son he couldn't keep his job unless he got rid of her based on her race. Again, I also don't think he could be prosecuted because he didn't know he was being recorded. I still wonder if it couldn't be determined that he has a claim to part of the money the son got from N.E. since it was done using his dad's voice. If he just came out and aired it, it would be one thing. He made a profit on it and, again, I would think that his dad's voice being used commercially would make it his property.
