Why the American flag on the Al Anabi dragster is on backwards? It may just have looked that way on TV.
Which Toyota is purportedly represented by the funny car body the teams use? The grille decal gives a Camry appearance, the taillights a Solara appearance. I say "purportedly represented" because all of the current funny car bodies looks little like anything available from the local dealership.
Just curious. Thanks.
Cheers,

Ed,

The flag is shown as how it would be if it were blowing in the breeze going 300mph down the track. If you look at fighter jets, the flag is the same way. This is the proper way to display a flag in such a situation...

Ed,
I beleive they are affixed the same as airliners and military aircraft. The flag is flying from front to back, as it would be if it were a real flag and the plane was flying. Viewed from the driver's left it looks normal, from the drivers right it appears backwards..

If it's acceptable on SAM27000 (Air Force One when POTUS is onboard), I guess it's OK.

Some years ago me and one of my crew members got into a big debate about how to display a decal of the flag on our car. The next night he showed me 9 pages downloaded off an officials U.S. Government website which showed all the proper ways of displaying the U.S. flag. I was wrong and now we have the stars forward on the right side of our car.

I still get asked and second guessed as to whether its displayed correctly. Think of it as if were flying from a pole in the wind. Here is a look at our car and our display YouTube - Andy Hiemstra @ ANRA Race #3 2009

While there is a correct way to display the flag, as far as I'm concerned anyone who displays wrong is alright in my book. GO USA.

Well, my question was "Does anybody know . . . . ?"
Apparently, several Maters knew!
Thanks.
Cheers,

I thought I heard that the U.S. flag was not intended to be displayed for commercial purposes. The way around that of course was to put it backwards. Flying in the wind sounds right too. I'm gonna ask LD if he knows about the one on the dragster though.

Come on Pops! All that time in the military and you don't know that the union always leads the way into battle? Title 4 of the US Code doesn't specify display of single sided images of the flag on vehicles but does state "When the flag is displayed on a motorcar, the staff shall be fixed firmly to the chassis or clamped to the right fender." The decal appearing "backward" represents the flag flying from a staff.
