Some noteable items:
no Bob Glidden behind the wheel of Jim Cunningham's Ford, Erica Enders piloting it instead. Perhaps a change of stratagy??
John Force's 2nd run was negated when the champ went bowling for finish line blocks.
Tony Schumacher's 1st run was disallowed after Sarge went up in smoke and Kalitta tripped Tony's lane with parts from an exploding engine.
The Greek is provisonally number 9, not a guaranteed start, but a good start to the weekend.
Allen Johnson returns to active competition, low et so far
Cruzer keeps up the momentum from his Charlotte win, provisional #1
Dixon and Al Anabi just keep on rollin with Cory Mac hot on his heels as they end up 1,2

It's crazy that the story in Top Fuel this year is Larry Dixon and Cory Mac. Tony is always a threat but the big story is how will Larry and Cory do. You never know what's gonna happen from year to year.

A few more notes....

Glidden's out for unknown medical procedures (they announced it at the race), and expected to return soon.

Force was not pleased with his bowling score, either, as he went flying back down the return road, scooter hitting on all cylinders, and immediately went into a starting line rant, presumably questioning the validity of the DQ call. But it was plain as day; they continued to replay the incident on the big screen, for all (including Force) to see. He soon relented and rode off. Jack Beckman is doggone lucky he was a length or two ahead or this would have been a replay of John's wreck with Kenny Bernstein. Force was already out of the groove and at 800 feet the car became really unhappy and just turned right.

Ashley's not qualified; the 3PM slip-n-slide didn't work for her and the evening brought a loss of traction and what looked like a small boomer at 400 feet. Too bad; the conditions were good enough for a 4.10 and her car has been stronger than a garlic milkshake.

I was REALLY impressed with the Greek. A smooth, totally trouble-free pass in Q2 netted him a 3.98, good enough for 9th and almost certainly securing him a spot for Sunday. Clay Millican was in the tower doing some commentary and he was beside himself after that pass. Go get 'em, Greek. :)

Andrew Hines raised a few eyebrows in the first session with the temp at 95, barometer at Bandimere levels, the humidity nearly as high as the temperature and the track temp hovering around 140....when he laid down a booming 195MPH pass. You make the call.

But the biggest news was the unrelenting heat. Predicted high 80's with cloud cover became high 90s with practically no clouds, little wind and lots of humidity. Round 1 was nearly impossible for the fuel cars, although a few minutes of cloud cover (and an hour-long delay from Worsham's monster oildown) produced two high 3.90 runs right at the end.

Really hope BG is going to be okay, IMO he doesn't have to be driving to be involved. But, if it makes him happy, I'm all for it.

If John did throw a temper tantrum over the DQ and unfortunate loss of orange styrofoam then he needs to re-read the rule book one more time.

Hines running 195 in the heat is brow raising, but so is L.E. Tonglets performance of late, not that the Tonglets don't know how to tune a scooter. But, L.E.'s .87 in R1 at CLT was 4 hun quicker than his pole time. Something I don't understand is why the media are forgetting that L.E. has 3 wins this season (Chicago, Indy, Charlotte), not 2. Interesting to see that Shawn Gann is not there, especially after his father Blake went public with his thoughts on the Harley's, hope this isn't some sort of secret probation. What's happened to Michael Phillips? His performance has fallen off the map, maybe Treble still has the good motor:D

I'm still holding on to hope that Greek makes the field:cool:

Jeg broke on the burnout, so he's now got 1 hit to crack the bump in the heat. Interestingly, his previous days 6.691 would be good enough for the bump. Thanks NHRA for your brilliance:rolleyes:

Fire in the hole, 5:45PM. No more rain; track's dry. They've got to finish round 3 and they have until 8PM or so to wind it up. They can make it if they'll push the teams a bit. 74 degrees, cool track, humidity high but the fuel cars should be able to get with the program.

Tomorrow, high 79 and dry air, lots better than Friday's 95.

did it, or did it not, start misting during Jeff and Melanie's run, funny that a minute later that it was sprinkling hard enough to shut things down for 5 hours.

just asking

No Q4 for FC

Anyone know who was tuning Mike Bowers Top Fueler this weekend??

Jeggie was the only PS to bump his way in, the rain delay played to his favor. Coughlin's incrementals:
60ft-1.009 sec., 330ft-2.809, 660ft-4.306/164.65 mph, 1,000ft-5.599

No double double for Troxel, DNQ
