More free press for Dodge.................more people will want one now

The car IS in fact banned. In post 43 by AR it clearly states NHRA banned the car from competition in a registered letter to Dodge. Don't see why there is confusion on this, NHRA made it very clear imo. In factory / showroom stock condition the Demon will not be allowed to compete.

Thats not true, if you run it slower than 9.90 it is a LEGAL car, first time you go faster you are out.

Publicity stunt by DODGE, it does not fit into any class at that ET. without safety up grades.

Also there are hundreds of tracks not NHRA that will allow it to run as is

NHRA does what is convenient for them just look at street outlaws........

look at it this way cars that are cert 8.50 can and will go a lot faster, they just do not. If they do they are "banned" from running, thats what all these delay boxes are about, slowing a fast car down

Sorry but the Demon nor the Copo Camaro just does not impress me all that much compared to a 68 SS Dart with 4bls and no computers.

Kevin, '68 Darts were, and are, badass. My buddies Chuck and his son Steve Comella have an original '68 Hemi Dart that Chuck bought new and has raced it in SS/AH since then. But you can't really ignore the quantum leaps in technology that the manufacturers have made, especially in the past several years. COPOs are race only, but some of these cars being offered today that are street legal, such as the ZL1, the Hellcat and now the Demon, are really something special.

a car that can meet the stringent rules of the 2017 EPA, DOT, federal crash test, be insured and get decent gas mileage, pull the front wheels and run faster than the 9.90 index with the a/c pumping impresses the hell outta me

American enginuity. That's not a misspelling, it's a play on words.

and at 9.65, it ran faster than the Hemi SS index when those cars were new

"A limited option for 1968 only, code L023,[23] were the Hurst-reworked Hemi Darts, using the 426 Hemi engine. These special models (only 80 were made) were created strictly for drag racing, and included a non-warranty disclaimer. On February 20, 1968, corporate headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, sent out a press release to Dodge dealerships across the country.[24] It was a promotional pitch purposed at selling drag ready, Hemi powered Darts. The press release stated that Dodge wanted to make a factory built and ready drag racer out of the 68 Dart GTS hardtop for competition in class B super stock drag racing. Engineers stated the new Hemi Dart would reach speeds of 130 mph in less than 11 seconds and quarter mile times in the 10-11 second range, although times have been reported as low as the 9-10 second range."

I understand the Demon is faster, my thing is not enough faster. The dart ran 10 to 11's at 130MPH 49 years ago with carburetors, points, and bias ply tires vs 9.65 at 140MPH with Fuel Injection, Blower, computer controlled ignition, MAP/O2 sensors, computer controlled suspension, and drag radials. Hand machined engine parts vs CNC machined engine parts. I am a Dodge boy and love all things HEMI, I like the Demon. But in 49 years Mopar can only go a second to a second and a half quicker and 10mph faster with all the technology? I understand the Demon is street legal and all, but I have an article in a Mopar muscle mag that tells what all it took to get a 68 Dart street legal and it was not a whole lot. I understand the bureaucrats and their rule bullshit.

And a couple thousand pounds difference?? Demon is a BIG boned girl..........

Again, the old factory race cars and muscle cars are very cool. But there's no denying how impressive these new cars are on many levels. Plus, you can go buy any of these cars right now, brand new!

and drive it cross country 20 mpg, stopping at every track and racing, full warranty coverage, A/C, 5 star crash protection, etc.etc.
