Two female Professional class winners in two races :)

Danica who?

NHRA Marketing department- please collect your pink slips on your way out of the office, and Mr. Compton- think you could find some time to help promote your sport a little bit with the media? Please? They seem to be pretty ravinous about pointing out female/ minority "firsts" in sport at the moment....

Someone needs to make a t-shirt that says:
"Diversity-What drag racing been doing for 50+years"
Evertime I hear something about Danica, I wanna puke.

NHRA has never needed a contrived "drive for diversity", either. For the past 50 years there have been female competitors, winning regional and national events. On top of that, NHRA has a long tradition of ethnic diversity, with Black, Hispanic, Asian, Polynesian, and Middle Eastern drivers and owners that have all won National Events.

I've said it for a long time: There is no other professional sport that has such a diverse group of Champions, with people from both genders, and all ethnic backrounds, competing on a level playing field.

Some media guys in an article on a site talked about this a while back. I think it was comp plus. They said that nhra being diverse is part of the problem, drag racing has been doing it so long thats its no longer news.

What drag racing gained in diversity decades ago, is only just happening in nascar.

...and, don't forget the championships. Shirley and Angelle both have three and Antron is the first African American to win an NHRA Top Fuel title and he'll probably win more, the way he's running!! :D:D:D

start buying some tv ad space during nascar races........something to effect,
"nhra, where women race (show image of force girls/erica/alexis/leah/karen/angie/melanie/hillary/peggy/angelle/rhonda/shelley/lori/rachel/bunny/lucille/etc)......and win (show image of recent winners erica/courtney), and we've been doing it for years (show image of trophy holding shirley / shelley / angelle / karen / melanie / ashley /hillary / peggy / etc.

Excellent idea. You should apply at NHRA. Oh, never mind, they probably wouldn't do it anyway.

I had to live through the whole IRL Danicamania deal, and I was so fed-up in the end, I can't imagine someone who likes Indy Car and NASCAR...I feel for you. I would be pulling my hair out by now.

I do think she has talent and skill, no doubt. It's the mixed messages. I understand, you have a marketable commodity, and you exploit it to further your racing, but saying things like "I want to be known as a race car driver, not a female race car driver" then do cheesecake glossies is a strange way of walking the walk. The soft-porn advertising that is Go-Daddy doesn't help at all with me taking her seriously. I know I would feel the same icky feeling if a shirtless Ron Capps wore hip-hugger jeans for his Trojan Condoms sponsor. And as that steeps, let me add, again, I understand why she does it. I also know it's a choice.

Listen, I know it took nerve to chase a crowd of open wheel cars vibrating through high G turns three inches from each-other, and I certainly know it takes nerve to pile into a corner with 42 of your closest friends flying bricks, but I would take her more seriously if she let her driving do the talking, and not the hormonal male audience.

That being said, Drag Racing women are sexier by far :)
