Del Worsham=Talented Driver

Thought it was interesting in one of his interviews where Del said something like: "It wasn't until this year that I realized how much I was doing. As a team manager/owner I was doing so many things. Turns out there's plenty to do just concentrating on driving. Now I can focus on being really good at that."
What a great guy, and someone who has certainly paid his dues -- whatever success he gets is well deserved.

He is not only a great driver but a really smart person. A little example ... in the early 90's they were building there own transporter during the off season. I had a chance to lend a hand with some of the simple stuff. Del and his dad were doing complex measurements in there heads as they converted a used auto hauler to a transporter. Chuck told me at least 15 years ago that Del was smart enough by that time to tune the car on his own.

Chuck and Del are both do-it-yerselfers.
Chuck would build their own funny car frames and have Kenny Mooers weld them up in the early days. Back in 1991 I remember Chuck and Del hand digging the foundation and setting up the framing for Kenny Mooers new concrete patio in a labor trade..."Will work for welding."
If you went by the shop Chuck is usual found doing all his own repairs including blocks, or installing air conditioningh system on the roof of his building, adding a second floor and installing two bowling alley lanes, or whatever. Del was typically on the clutch dyno, or working on one of the race cars with the guys from dawn until dusk along with anything else that needed to be done. They are both the type of people that would never ask anyone to do anything they wouldn't or haven't already done themselves.
I doubt you'll find Del laying around in the lounge at the races. He's too much like his dad. At Las Vegas this year Chuck came by my pit along with his pal Rod and he looked a little lost. I think he was hoping we needed a block repair or something.

I'm not sure I could intelligently argue that there's a better Funny Car shoe.

They asked AJ on the broadcast yesterday, with all the apps he got for the driver of the funny car, why Del? AJ put it succinctly as possible ... cuz he is a dammed good driver! Even went as far as to say reminded him of Blaine ...

When Chuck Worsham and Grant Downing were setting the levels on the lanes Grant told me the rep from the company Chuck bought the bowling equipment from (pinsetters, etc.) said the synthetic lanes they were installing were supposed to be something like +/- a tenth of an inch or two as far as far as level and flat goes. Grant said "You know Chuck...he's getting it within a thow (.001).

when i worked with the barklage boys on their pro-mods we were friends with some of the worsham crew guys and got the awesome privilege to hang out in their pit from time to time. and man i can tell you first hand that there were some teams with more financial resources... but there wasn't a team on the property that had them out-gunned in the talent and heart department
del and his father and family are some incredibly talented and dedicated racers and their hard work and dedication has put them where they are today... they have a helluva lot to be proud of

I remember going to Brainerd in '91, That was the year Del started racing. While everyone else had the by-now common semi rigs, Del was still using a fifth wheel dually with his back-up body ("SCREAMER") bolted to the roof.
Does anyone remember the Diamond P segment where they showed him as one of the new arrivals on the scene, and showed him popping wheelies on his BMX bike? I was there when they filmed that!
Last year, at Brainerd, I was talking to Chuck, and reminded him of those memories, and also of watching the "Hendy and Worsham" team race there before that. He told me "Man, you've been folling this sport for a LONG TIME!!
Really cool to see Del land such a sweet deal for himself. Realy happy for him. He's earned it, by golly!
I have to admit, I'm torn between Del and Ron Capps this year.
Is there a way they can be co-champions?????
