Davies Crash Video

It looks like the car was close to upside down when it slid over the wall. I hope the driver didn't get hit at that point.

Now imagine how that would've worked in a 4 Wide competition. Possibly crossing in front of 3 others. Like a Big One on the last lap at Daytona.
That run went south real quick. Not sure anyone could have backed off the throttle in time to prevent that crash. Almost looks like something broke in the rear end?

I don't recall that we have ever had a crash of a car during a 4-wide race so far. If not, that is a pretty lucky record.

I assume there are still at least some of the same safety crews on site during these tests? Is it up to the race team to set that up and pay for it?

"David Davies was uninjured following an on-track testing incident at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway today. Davies was making his first Top Fuel pass as part of the established Top Fuel licensing process when the incident occurred. He contacted the right guardwall from the left lane and exited the racecar under his own power. He was immediately evaluated by the on-site NHRA medical team. He left the property for further evaluation at University Medical Center in his personal vehicle as a voluntary precautionary measure"

Bet Josh won't be amused.
Not 100% sure but I think he was a witness to it.... anybody know if this is him on the starting line?

It would be a disaster if the three other cars went up in smoke. Most likely it would get tangled up with the car in lane two and not much more. If the other cars made clean runs they would be long gone by the time he came across his lane.
Even worse if it was a two lane track. Imagine it jumping the retaining wall at that point of the track Sunday first round with spectators standing along the fence? A lot of tracks don’t have a lot of space between the guard wall and the fence.

the rt. wheel loses traction, and that thing turns rt. immediately. just like foley's incident on friday, only doug's turned left

Glad David was OK. I feel bad for Josh Hart and Elite/Stewart as that was Josh's car that was part of the sale. Now he's renting Travis Shumake's car to run Pomona.

I don’t think one tire can lose traction unless the axle breaks, aren’t top fuel rear ends solid axel, or am I out of touch with today’s T/F cars ?

Your out of touch. Guarantee you that if one tire slips the one with traction will drive the car forward thus turning it
If the axle is solid how does one tire spin fast enough to smoke than the other one, Tony can you update me with the current T/F rear end and how you can smoke one tire like that, I completely agree with you Harry on how the car made a sudden turn because of right tire smoking, just would like to know how that can happen without axle failure, thanks for your help to understand how this happens👍😎

Physics. They are both turning at the same speed. If something causes one tire to spin the other will keep driving causing car to turn very fast. We had it happened years ago on our TA/FC. Header cracked and blew alcohol under the left tire at launch. It instantly went left, just missed the tree !

The trick is to not get hung up on the thought of one tire spinning (at a higher rate of rotation). Just because one tire has lost traction simply means it has stopped providing forward propulsion, NOT that its rotational speed is higher than the other tire. Think of two dragster tires, with traction, providing forward "thrust". If you put a sheet of ice under one of the tires, it will still have the same rotational speed, but the car will make an immediate, violent turn.
