Memphis, TN (8/19/06) -- Dave Northrop uncorked his best Pro Stock run of the hot, muggy weekend in Saturday's opening session of the O'Reilly's Mid-South Nationals and the 6.789-second time put him 15th for Sunday's NHRA POWERade Series event at Memphis Motorsports Park.
Northrop, from Perkasie, Pa., is driving Kenny Koretsky's blue Nitro Fish/ISC Racers Tape Dodge Stratus. He races Mike Edwards (second, 7.650 seconds) in the first round. Weather conditions are expected to mirror the high-90-degree temperatures that prevailed Friday and Saturday.
"We kind of snuck in there," said Northrop. "The car shook big time in second gear and made a move to the right on our last attempt."
Crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia said he "put on a new set of carburetors on the second run, ones we'd been wanting to try, and they caused he shake. But I think we learned something about them. They are more aggressive than the old ones. I think we'll work on them and see if we want to use them Sunday."
