One of the men who was run over still works @ Firebird Raceway in Boise.
Dunn filed for bankruptcy and the 'New' family, who owns the dragstrip had their insurance handle the claims and Dunn never returned and that was the end of his match-race days.

When Herbert had his explosion @ Pomona on the starting line a woman lost an eye and 9 people were sent to the hospital...3 in ambulances.

@ Uniongrove, Wisc many years ago Jimmy Nix had a clutch explosion @ half track and parts killed two spectators.

There are alot of horrible stories out there...but many more safe stories that make this sport the best.

Would this be about the time Jim Dunn gave up driving his funny car? Man I don't think I could live with myself if I had been responsible for something as bad as what you just stated. If this is true, I don't know how he could have afforded the lawsuits that would have come his way. Hope this is just an urban legend.

Terry is absolutely right. The incident happened in I think `85 or `86. They used line the funny cars on the track and fire them all up, half would idle down track and the other half would go up the return road back toward the pits. Dunns throttle apparently hung open, there`s a bend at the end of the return road, Dunns car kept going straight and he went thru a concession stand.
