As bad as this is, it happens alot. Didn't one of the Petty's even actually kill one of thier own family members? And who was the funny car drag racer back in the 90's maybe, who ran over a crew member? Not the guy who got his pants blown off... this was another incident awhile further back. And at the next race they even made a joke of it and put tire tracks across all thier crew shirts.

I thought it was John Force's crew that had shirts with tire marks. And the person that had his pants blown off I believe was John Medlen. The body hit the throttle linkage and caused that incident.
That was Dickie Venables at Indy. I remember the crewman that was lowering the body for TPed got his front tooth chipped.
Mike, I think your off the mark a little on this statement. Kenny ran over the legs of one of the crew guys when they lowered the body and it caught the throttle linkage and the car lunged forward. same deal as happend to Tony Ped.
Kennys crew showed at the next event with the tire mark across the front!!

I don't want to get jumped on here as a Danica apologist, but the guy was in a live pit area during happy hour with a very loud fast car approaching and without a helmet. Ummm...
As for "she'd have to have been blind not to see him", if you see the shot, you can see he was behind a crew guy for the car in the next pit, I'm betting she never saw him 'til she hit him.

I was under the impression that on a racetrack the cars ALWAYS have the right of way and it's up to people to get the heck out of the way...
On the running over people part most here are wrong; Bernsyein ran over Dale Armstrong and Mark when Kenny could not get the car in reverse and Dale tried to engage it for him after the burnout and bumped Kennys knee which 'blipped' the throttle while mark was holding the body up for Dale and they both were run over---hence the t-shirts @ the following race.
T. Pedregon crewmember Cody was run over while trying to 'lift' the body that was hung up on the 'new' linkage Dickie had installed and blipped the throtttle @ the U.S. nats.
I am a fuel racing freak but have to give more driving talent to the cart/F1 pilots in regards to talent...They are running side-by-side @ high speeds, w/in inches of each other w/many pits stops, longer periods of needed concentration than drag racers and Danica is ripping style.

On evening at OCIR in 1969 saw Snake run over Lou Baniey<sp> with the SOHC ford digger following a burn out while they were pushing the car back. Think Lou broke his leg. Think over the years, this has happened more that we'd like to think. Just not on TV at the Big Show.

One another note......
You know sometimes even when I'm trying to get back to the pit after a pass....it's hard to get through the crowds. Folks don't notice me behind them....they are oblivious to the sound of my car. I always wish I had one of those horns like Jim Carey did in the Mask movie.........
