What a great shot, wish I got to go down on the starting line!

Not one of mine Craig, It's a shot that was on the NHRA.com site long ago by Auto Imagery, been part of my screensaver for along time as well!!
Actually 85 would have been 13 years after I stopped taking pics at the track, but you are right, the starting line is a very nice place to be.

That was my first car in 1990. Came with a tech 4 and sold it with 190,000 miles.

Why do I laugh everytime I hear that said... The three Floppers in this thread look no more like their stock counterparts than today's floppers look like the blobs you see on the street today...

I have problems telling Pro Stocks apart... but then, I can't tell one street car from another.:o The only exceptions being the Mustang and the Challenger.:)

One More Time... Funny Cars have Never looked like street cars, but that's why they are called Funny Cars.:D

Karl;
I thought you had been around longer than that. In the beginning, Funnycars looked exactly like street cars because they were street cars with blown motors and the rear wheels moved forward.

As for making them look like real cars again, NHRA keep saying they need to find a way to slow them down. How about making them look real again. That would push a lot more air than the current jelly beans do.

Not even make them look real. Make them look nostalgic. Give them weight breaks if they go for old as hell body styles like the 80's, 70's, 60's. Didn't they do that in IHRA for pro mod's? It's not about speed anymore, it's about the show. Oh yeah, and wouldn't it be nice if they weren't decal machines either. Maybe give then cars bad ass names and such.

Was that the car that the rock band RATT sponsored for a while? I remember being at Indy with Della Woods and those guys were there. That was a pretty bold move for back then, for a band to want to get involved in racing like that. I wonder what kind of money was involved with that deal. But I whole- heartedly agree about the older styles vs. todays cookie-cutter molds. Funny Cars had thier own unique identity and look.

Thats the same car.

I saw it on a few different occasions. A few times with Miller on board and another time or two with Ratt onboard. He just re-lettered the car with the Ratt livery. The paint was the same.

It was a beautiful car. The yellow/ gold paint was something to see in the sunlight. I think it was built by H&H race cars. Pulde ran it for several years. Freddy Neely ran the same car with the same paint for a while when Pulde got out.

I agree with the posters who would like to see more realistic looking funny cars. The bubble top cars of today don't even come close to a car like this in the coolness category.
