Anyone out there use custom fit earplugs? I have a pair, but I am looking for a different set, ones that have a tether that attaches left and right plugs. Almost like in-ear monitors that musicians use.

From I have seen, the Copart team uses them.

Any one know where I can get these? I haven't found them online and my audiologist can't get them from the lab they use.

Thanks in advance...

Tom, my son had a set that were made somewhere in Indy. You might send an e-mail to some of the teams based back there and see what they get theirs.

At the race track by Racing Electronics or Racing Radios, I forget which it is. Its like $55 and worth every penny!!

First you have to get ear molds made locally. Go to your local hearing aid Dr. and ask them to make you a set or ear molds. One thing though, to work for motorsports you want your ear canal stretched a bit, since you'll just be at a hearing aid store take one of your hands, make a two barrel "gun" out of it (with your index and middle finger being the two barrels, then put the two barrels in your mouth ... e.g. lightly bite down on your index and fore finger stacked on top of each other) this will make your ear canal the correct shape while the hearing aid shop is making your $10 to $20 a pair ear molds.

Then you send the ear molds to someone like Racing Communications or Racing Electronics and they will make you a custom set of ear gels, they can even embed speakers for your Ipod in them. Most people make them different colors (like red for the right ear).

Makes a huge difference. My wife has done this a few times for the Racing Communications radios we use . . . you will find them to be very comfortable and easy to put in once you overcome the lack of desire to get them wet in your mouth before you slip em in your ear (your own wet willy!).

There is a product called Oto-ease that helps with inserting the plug. It is sort of like a certain lubricating jelly. The last few sentences had lots of innuendo. :D

Although I don't see a rep for Rhode Island, Big Ear Inc. is another provider. The guy here in AZ made a pair for me, and I know they travel to events.

This is what I am looking for. They have a model where a cord tethers the plugs, so I can hang them around my neck. I have custom fit plugs right now but they are not tethered to one another. Those are a pain the a** to deal with....

Thanks for the tip!
