so now in the future when championship are talked about well have to ask now was that a season championship or the first version of the countdown or the second version or whatever they decide to do next to make a mockery of the title.

...Those Pedregon Bros. have to Luv the Countdown!

...Very Sorry for T.W.and gang....What a year for wilkerson!!!:)

Yep, another stellar season goes unrewarded that to the countdown! This stinks... Fuller got hosed last year, now its wilkerson's turn. Boo countdown!!!

Thanks PJ, you made me smile while crying in my ice cream...

y'all know how I feel about Hop Sing and the crew on the AAA car. I was hoping the CD would werk in their favor, If Tim didn't win it...

You know I don't like the CD... but having said that, with all the *****ing about Championships being lock before the last four or five events... Sarge/AJ, Papa John in 93, GA several years ago, The NHRA was damned if they did, and damned if they didn't do 'something' about it... personally, I feel if someone locks by INDY, SO WHAT...

There is NO WAY a Champion can be decided by playing with the points... Our Sport is the "Sweet Sixteen" every weekend...

It's just the PC world we live in can't handle a team being better than everyone else over the entire season... It's NOT FAIR...

d'kid
off my soap box now

Of course it's all about the points, but there's another dimension which I haven't seen mentioned.

Don't forget that Tim lost a bunch of oildown credits he was carrying when the points were manipulated. If I'm not mistaken, he lost points later in the year when he otherwise would not have been charged.

Dan you are right sir. When they took away the points lead from the #1's, they also took away the oildown credits they had earned.

Nothing against Curz, under the CD system, Curz is the CD champ.
BUT
Cruz did not take the championship from Wilk........The CD system did.

Last year Fuller - this year Wilk. Wonder who will get hosed next year??

Curz! LMAO! That's one typo you can keep-o

It's obvious by the number of posts thus far that the countdown issue is a sore spot for some. I for one believe your performance throughout the entire season should be used as the factor when determining the class winner!

However, having said that, if the countdown brings in viewership, sponsorship, etc. etc. I wonder if that is not what is truly in the best interest of the sport from an economic point of view? Especially in today's society?

The spectator stands appear less full than in year's past, perhaps it is a misperception on my part?

Having said all of that it may become a moot point if our economy does not recover any time soon?

Congratulations to the 2008 class winners all around! :D

Some misguided thoughts-
What would be said if it was Baze that won the countdown?

If countdowns are so good, why doesn't F1 use one?

I'm happy for Cruz, he's definitely had enough lean years. I hate the countdown so part of me wanted Wilkerson to win, but on the other hand I hate 1000 feet too (more so than the CD), so another part of me wanted Cruz or Tony to get the title. I was also happy for Rahn Tobler, there's probably a bunch of teams that wish they had hired him last year when he was available.

so.... all of you who are saying that the countdown is not fair and does not determine the true champion and is a screwed up system, were you saying the same thing when the Patriots lost the super bowl last year......

I personally love the countdown, it is the Playoffs of the NHRA, the drivers need to be good all season... but they need to be at their BEST at the end of the season.

I would much rather have the standings close at the end of the season rather than have somebody lock up the championship with 5 races to go....

Congrats to Cruz, Rahn ad the entire crew for the Championship, and, winning 3 races in a row when it they needed it the most!
another unworthy countdown crowning:mad:
That's just an asinine statement, every team knew the points system BEFORE the season started.

Cruz earned the title by being a consistent, round winning car and putting away the competition at the last 3 races, did any other FC team do that?

If you can't accept the system, I suggest you move on to some other sport, or, get over it, this topic is about a celebration, go rain on someone else's parade.

Btw, this format is closer to the ORIGINAL one which was, win the Finals and you were the champ, no matter what happened during the rest of the season.

Hmmmmmm..............does Tony Schumacher ring a bell? :D

Congrats to Cruz! Cruz peaked at the correct time and maximized the rules system, so I congratulate Cruz for winning the Powerade Championship!
