GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 17, 2007) - Aussie Troy Critchley swears that luck had nothing to do with his record-setting runs on this St. Patrick's Day Saturday in the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Modified Challenge presented by Tindle Enterprises, Inc. at the ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla.
After exploding into the five-second zone with his 5.946/245.27 top-qualifying pass, Critchley improved his personal best to 5.924/245.81 as he soundly defeated Naples, Fla. resident Bryan Seward. Critchley's qualifying speed serves as the required one percent backup required to earn the precious 100 bonus points in the BAE Championship Cup points chase - barring any faster runs in the rest of eliminations.
Critchley earned the Ohio Crankshaft Top Qualifier honors for the event and will be presented with a $1,000 check for his accomplishments.
"I said yesterday that I was having a proud moment when I thought I'd set the record at 241, but, this is by far better. I'm kind of speechless, really. I mean, setting the record that high is awesome," Critchley said.
"I knew this 'Cuda had in her, and with that Dr. Moon Horsepower under the hood, she's definitely one to beat. I'm excited to see what tomorrow brings, really - with three rounds left, who know what will happen," he said.
"I guess we'll just have to wait and see," Critchley added.
Critchley has lane choice against Steve Engel in round two of eliminations, scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. (EDT) tomorrow, Sunday, March 18 at Gainesville Raceway.
