BEECHER, IL - Minutes after completing the Torco Race Fuels President's Cup Nationals in Budds Creek, Maryland, Dale Creasy, Jr. was counting points and preparing for the ultimate Torco Pro Nitro Funny Car showdown, the IHRA World Finals in Rockingham. Creasy currently leads the class and holds a 22 point advantage over Jack Wyatt, but missed an opportunity to put more distance between him and Wyatt after losing a quarter-final match up with Jeff Diehl, who would go on to win his first Iron Man of the season.
"If we had went to the final, we could have put ourselves in a better position," said Creasy. "But Jack is another round closer and it will be just a little more exciting when we get to Rockingham."
Creasy's early exit in Maryland was not from lack of effort. "Right now I don't even know what to think," Creasy said. "We put a brand new motor in it, everything brand new so we wouldn't have any trouble and the lifter bores must have been a little to tight and we didn't catch it on the last run."
The results, a 'mild' bang to the supercharger which resulted in a blown burst panel and some body damage which cost Creasy a valuable 15 points when a Black Flag penalty was accessed to sweep the body parts from the track. "We've got a few cracks in the body, nothing we haven't had happen before," Creasy said. "The motor is back together and ready to go, so that will be all right."
With one race remaining and a championship at stake Dale Creasy, Jr. and team Torco knows that they have one shot to win the championship. "We've got plenty of spare parts," explained Creasy. "We're going back to the shop and build a couple of more motors, if we have to put a motor in every run, we're going to go down there and try win that thing."
