Could a current Fuel Dragster/Funny Car last a 1/2 mile  on a full run, if so, how fast would it be going, etc?

The answer is No...

Can't make a 4 and a half second fuse burn 6 seconds....

Too many side questions to even think about... the biggest is tires and track

Even if you softened the Tune-up to make the Motor last, is there ANY driver crazy enough to try running these things for a 1/2 mile pass? I doubt the Chassis would hold up, much less the Tires!

Yeah but it would be cool to see someone try to make on run on the salt flats.
i'm going to take a guess that V8 land speed records are not accomplished
with a single cam blown nitro motor?? (or maybe there is a class for this?)
wish i knew more about dry lake racing.

Al Teague has been chasing the piston driven LSR for a number of years with his blown hemi single engine streamliner. I'm not sure but I think he uses a fairly low nitro load. He has been over 400 mph thus far

back in 1998 bobby lagana went close to a half mile at new york when he had his bad accident. the throttle was hung and that track has one of the longest shut down areas. i was in the pits accross from the finish line and you could hear the motor going on for what seemed forever. thank god he is still racing today !

Ah yes.I think the chassis kinked and took out the throttle cable and chute cables?? He stopped in a corn field?

we have some chunks of alluminum from Gary Clapshaw's funny car from like 1995 in Seattle the sun was in his eyes so he couldn't see the finish line. He went like an extra 100 ft and it just started eating its self up. They used a sledge hammer to disassemble the engine.

That footage they showed of Capp's throttle hanging Open for an extra second or so? I bet that destroyed everything in the block!

I'm pretty sure that Nolan White's Autopwer streamliner was running a BBC on methanol with an 8-71 and he went over 400 mph. It was a 4wd contraption.

Chet Herbert had a streamliner that was being run by Spike Gorr a couple of years back too... Couple of blown Chryslers, if memory serves correctly..

That reminds me of my old buddy Wayne Bailey. He had a motor one year at The Texas Motorplex that let go, and there literally was no piece bigger than a Coke can left of the long block. But crazy Wayne... with absolutley no way he'd afford to run the car again for another 2 months let alone that weekend....there he was in the pits with that friggin hat of his, laying out all the pieces on the ground, writing on a napkin making a list of parts he needed and who's trailers to go borrow from. I miss him.

Some classes can run various fuels on the salt bed.

The Burkland's from Great Falls, MT run a streamliner with two V-8 Donovan racing engines. They are supercharged and burn methanol alcohol to produce a combined 4,000 horsepower.

Steen and Sons out of Idaho Falls, ID have a streamliner and it had a multiple engine setup as well. I haven't seen them at the salt in a few years and have no idea what they are running fuel wise.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if a drag car could last more than a quarter mile.

If the crew chiefs had to make them run a half mile, they would figure out how to do it.

As for the salt flats, I hope to get there before the Head Flagman gives me the checkered flag. Speed week must be cool (ok, I know its actually hot, but you know what I mean).

Chris, my biggest memory of Wayne Bailey was at Indy in '95? When his throttle stuck and instead of driving straight into the sand he drove it on the grass intentionally spinning the car backwards into the sand saving the car! Now that's a Driving job!!!!
