If they don't get one of Johnson's Hemis, he'll be down there with some of the Fords.
That would seem to be the normal progression. Look how long it took Larry Morgan to become competitive. The rest of the Fords are still a mile off.
That said, the availability of technology may make it a quicker ascension to the top of the field. Have you ever read Allen Johnson's blog on NHRA dot com? He's always out of town, going to parties, football games, his weekend lake home on off weekends, racing Vipers in some other celebrity series and never seems to be at the shop working. That has always surprised me. I doubt that the Summit cars, Mike Edwards, Larry Morgan or WJ can be found on the celebrity entertainment circuit like AJ. Evidently Allen has enough people working for him that he can live this lifestyle. I doubt that other top performers are.
If you look at their team, one could surmise that it is easier these days...
