Comparing world titles preset to say 1975

Was watching the WHEELS OF FIRE over at compplus and they mentioned number of titles certain drivers had won.
BUT there are more races in present day than say 1975.
Curious if one took # of races in 2014 but eliminated the races that were added since, how would the driving records/world titles compare??
There's 23 races present day but I think only 15 in 1975??
Wonder if Tony S. would still have record # of world titles etc.

I don't think there were 15 races in 1985 let alone 1975. Keep in mind divisionals played into it too back then.

There were eight national events in 1975 (Pomona, Gainesville, Columbus, Englishtown, Montreal, Indy, Seattle, Ontario). Don Prudhomme won six of them. In 1976, he won 7 out of 8 (and would have won them all if Gary Burgin hadn't beaten him in the final at Indy). So I think it would be fun to look at it the other way: What if there had been 23 national events back then?

I believe that as more races was added. The deeper pocket team was able to spend the necessary $$ to out last the lower budget teams. For example Mac & Prock lost a championship only because of pinching pennies and not going to one race. The deeper pocket won that year.

looking at TF = 8 races from 1975 to 1985 : Don Garlits won 25%, Shirley Muldowney won 37.5%
1986 - 1994 = 15 races : Joe Amato won 26.66%
1995 - 2005 =23 races: Tony Schumacher 13.04%, Gary Schelzi 13.04%
2006 - 2014 = 24 races: Tony Schumacher 20.33%

Hopefully I got this correct?? but if it is then Shirley is out front with 37.5%
interesting to me at least

Garlits did not race NHRA for part of that era. I know he came "back" in '84 @ INDY and raced until the blow over in Washington state.
