KENT, Wash. – For several moments Sunday, Steve Chrisman thought he had an opportunity to register a stunning a first-round upset in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways.
But Tony Schumacher’s Top Fuel dragster went around Chrisman’s Nitro Fish entry and got the win light in 3.884 seconds at 311.20 mph. Chrisman – who had the starting-line advantage of .065-second to .083 second – followed at 4.000, his quickest run of the season, at 290.63 mph.
“It was a close race,” said Chrisman. “I thought we might be getting a break.” But he didn’t.
“When I congratulated Tony for the win, he said it was close and that’s why he doesn’t like racing me. He knows he can’t make any mistakes because we can go down the race track.”
