Check out Jeff Byrds comments. I know this has been talked about before but is this the first time its been confirmed?????

They tried to build Vegas as a 4 lane track, but SMI was told in no uncertain terms that NHRA would NOT sanction a 4 lane track. Look at it this way ... as soon as one is built ... it obsoletes every other track on tour ....

I heard it's going to be 4 lanes, DIVIDED! Maybe an alligator filled median! Cross the centerline now!
 
It is not a 4 lane track, It is 2 standad 2 lane tracks side by side seperated with a retaining wall. And NHRA never told him they wouldnt sanction it they said that it wouldn't be used at national event.

Well DUH. who n the world would even think they would have four lanes without a wall. that wasnt the issue it was just a statement from Jeff Byrd that puts and end to all rumors. who cares if nhra tells Bruton they wont sanction a race on a track like that. He can just start his own series if he wants

You really have to admire the NHRA guys and their very forward thinking position they have taken on this matter :rolleyes::rolleyes::)
 
Let's make it 64 LANES!!! Run Top Fuel, Funny Car Pro Stock, and the bikes all at the same time. 16 in each class all run at the same time with one green light. There would be one winner in each class. They could get it over with sooner and we could have a LIVE half hour TV show. If there was an oil down, so what. If Bruton wants more lanes and to screw up the way Drag Racing works, why not really screw it up with 64 lanes. It's all about the show to Bruton. He is in my opinion nothing more than a very wealthy circus promoter.

Just thinking out loud here.


Is the plan to race 4 at once (in any class) or is is a way to allieiate any oil down time. If one surface gets oiled down, they move over to the other 2 lanes while the first one is cleaned up.

Now I realize that would be a nightmare for tuners trying to fgure out 4 lanes, and how do you run qualifying then.

Didn't they used to run 4 lanes waaaaaaaaay back in the day? How was that?


I'd prefer 2 at a time, but I'm interested in at least hearing what the idea is for the 4 lanes
 
only a guess.
racing still only 2 cars at a time, but 2nd track is........
- being prepped while one class runs, switch to other track at intervals,
eliminated track prep time before pro classes
- always available for quick switch in event of oildown
- becomes new heli-pad for nascar drivers and teams
 
Sorry but I do not see this happening, TOO MUCH LIABILITY!!! Lets look at safety, the only thing that matters. At my job, when we have a 1050 P.I. (personal injury) rescue, on the interstate with entrapment, it can be a nightmare. When you have crews from a engine company, heavy rescue squad, truck company and paramedic unit working to cut a person out of a vehicle, it's bad enough with cars and trucks going by at 65+ MPH, so we shut the road down. It's enough stress to get that person out the entrapment, into the helicopter and off to Shock Trauma, you don't need vehicles going by at 65+MPH. Now, yes the safety guys at the NHRA may have that concrete wall between them, but on the other side are two race cars going alot faster than 65MPH.
Then what are the crew chiefs going to do when they may have to run in a lane that's unknown. It's all about SAFETY, everyone goes home healthy and safe at the end of the day!!!
 
This four lane nonsense again. OK, how'd ya like to be working on the cleanup crew in the shutdown lanes when this happens in the other lanes???? If you were on that crew, would you be able to move fast enough?

Not me man. And you might claim that this is a rarety these days. But it only takes ONCE to have a major, multi injury disaster on your hands.

Plus, how far away will the action be when the action switches to the far lanes from you??

You'll notice, by the way, there IS a retaining wall there.
