Banaka was the winner even if he crossed the centerline, hit the wall, mooned the crowd, etc. He was the only one of the four who took the tree. My Buddy Dave W posted a video yesterday of a race between Dennis Taylor and Jay Payne years ago in Alcohol Funny Car where Payne left before the tree activated and Dennis hit the 1/8 mile blocks but because Dennis was the only one to take the tree, he was the only one "in the race". I don't even think its a matter of first or worst coming into play.

I was always under the impression that the only way you can lose a bye run is to cross the line or hit a wall. That is not correct?
