Phil Burkart smoked the tires early in his Friday attempt, leaving him 15th going into Saturday's twin sessions. Despite his slip in the standings, he was far more worried about his teammate, Del Worsham, who suffered a huge wreck at the top end of the track.
"We were just getting back from our run, and were listening on the P.A. when we heard them describe Del's wreck," Burkart said. "We all got down to the top end of the track as fast as we could, and I had a chance to talk to Del for a minute before they put him in the ambulance. I know he was sore, but the good news was he was walking and talking, everything was where it's supposed to be, and he was lucid. He was more mad than anything else. We're all worried about him. We need to get down the track solidly tomorrow, to do our jobs, and we hope Del is back out here and feeling better."
