You wouldn't believe how big competitive professional fishing is. These guys wear shirts that have as many logos as any race car driver's suit does, and their boats are incredibly expensive.
Ask anybody really in the know ... and I guarantee they will tell you that a top B.A.S.S. competitor earns way more $$ than any NHRA driver. Last years winner of this particular event won $500,000 just for fishing in a single event. Outdoorsmen shows have always been a cash cow for ESPN. Some of the footage actually showed spectators sitting on the river banks watching guys fish, good grief. But, the hunting / fishing enthusiasts in this country way out number us drag fans. FACT ! Also, I think the B.A.S.S. organization and ESPN have some form of partnership. B.A.S.S. does not have its own website ... it is part of the ESPN website.

Besides the issue if you want to record the show they still show the show in it's entirety.
If you have a DVR with a decent Hard drive to record with just set it up to record the show afterwards then you will get the entire program! Geez! :p

I can't believe those guys make $500K for catching a fish! And to think, people think that basketball players are overpaid.

I can just picture some poor fisherman entering one of those events and using his skill to catch some good fish and coming out at the end of the day being pretty well off financially . It would be like winning the lottery .

It kind of reminds me of the Newhart episode with the lady fishing champ and her rather hefty rear end. The couldn't believe the size of her "bass." :D

RE: "Some of the footage actually showed spectators sitting on the river banks watching guys fish..."

Nobody ever lost a dime underestimating the I.Q. of the general public (TV audience.)

LOL Bill and I started our competetive career in B.A.S.S. then moved on to more fishing, and then racing... we are back into fishing, LOL
Stop staring at my bass ;)

IRL signed a contract for 11.4M for broadcast rights to their boring program. NHRA pays how much to have their programs on TV?

With the exception of Indy and 2 other races, the IRL is on VS. this year ... good luck finding them. The NHL is still crying about winding up on that channel after their strike. I find it incredible VS. ponied up that much cash for the IRL ...

Surprised???

We get bumped for everything, girls 9th round basketball, bass fishing, No name state vs who in the heck University football games that have a 20 point spread in the 4 quarter, ect

I rarely turn on my tv and they start on time.
