I saw a headline this morning that a Belgian brewer named inBev may make a bid for Anheuser Busch. I guess they are the world's second largest brewer by volume. Obviously my hope is, should this happen, they maintain their long standing involvement in our sport.

This story rocked us all in Missouri...close to Anheuser Busch's world headquarters in St Louis. August Busch says a takeover will never happen on his watch. I'm not sure how he could block a purchase of majority stock in his publicly traded company, unless he owns majority interest.

This is St Louis' marque company. It's impact in the city is far reaching and generational. A sale of the company will most certainly open up a review of all marketing and advertising plans. That would be a slippery slope none of us want to tread on.

I don't think people of America would take kindly to a forced take over by a foreign country. There market would suffer severely. I know a lot of people who would stop buying Budweiser.

I agree. Market shares would diminish. When that happens marketing budgets follow.

Let's hope it doesn't happen...

Didn't seem to hurt British Petroleum when they took over Standard Oil. People still buy Firestone Tires. Miller Brewing is owned by SAB, better known as South African Breweries.

There probably would be a short backlash if it happens, but Americans tend to have short memories, and after a while, their sales volume will recover.

Doc, i would agree with you a year ago, but i think things like this and the oil deal it just might get a little more personal now.

i heard the same story this morning; story also stated AB has been
slow to gain marketshare in foreign markets, hence allowing competitors
to grow and put themselves in position for hostel takeover.

Could it have anything to do with AB not considered in many places around the world as real beer? And they have been losing market share in the USA, hence the value is down and it makes it more attractive as a takeover.

I work for an A-B distributor here in Missouri & this has been going on for some time. It's just till recently that Inbev got serious & offered a bid. A-B all ready has the rights to distribute many Inbev brands, so they've been in partnership for a while. The scuttlebutt i've been hearing is the Busch family in no way wants to relinquish control of their part. But in today's market any outcome wouldn't suprise me.

The majority of our stock market is made up by foreign investment it's not that uncommon as you would like to think! ;)
The United States ain't what it use to be.

Welcome to the world economy my friend....

My past employer of 25 years is Coors. Oh wait, I mean Molson. Oh wait, I mean Miller or somebody.
I hope my retirement money is still there when I am finally eligible to start drawing it next year.

The only AB product I can drink is Michelob or Mich light. All the rest give me a major headache, and not because of quantity. I truly can't drink any Bud or Bud lite, but maybe I will give that lime one a try.

The only way I might accept a take over is if they would bring back the Frog commercials.

Why would you want to kill the taste of a good beer with lime, but I figure if LORI is willing to try it I can too. :D

Lori got family coming in town so i won't be able to make it, thanks for the offer though.

You would be the perfect one to hold up the mater sign behind Dunn. HaHa lol.:D
