Bristol? (1 Viewer)

Do we have a choice? If we are going to have to skip a race, can we skip Memphis? This year is gonna be a hot one!!!!

Just read the NHRA piece on Bristol and all the activities planned around the race. Someone needs to let Bruton know it's going to be cancelled. Don't you hate rumors? Did you notice in the photos of the new concrete that it extends over both tunnels? See you in Bristol.

Speaking of Bristol -
We'll be up all weekend) From Friday afternoon to Sunday evening.
Where's the places to eat?

Sorry. I was a little slow! :D

Shirley's Restaurant - Good Old Home Cookin'

Shirley's is absolutely the big local secret around here! Home Style, meaning you tell them what drinks (and it better be sweet tea with lemon!) and meats (and you'd better make roast beef one of your choices. They cook it for a long time in a soup and it's hard to get it from the serving plate to yours without it falling apart!) you want. In a few minutes they'll come out with a platter about a yard in diameter with your meats and every vegetable/side item they offer. Anything you finish, they'll bring more of. They're only open weekends because quality still sells and that's all they have to be.

From the track, take highway 11E south (Turn left on Volunteer) about five minutes or less. Turn left on 19E. Take this straight through Elizabethton, turning into highway 321. A couple minutes later you and 321 will turn left, soon entering the Cherokee National Forest (with lots of camping, boat launches, picnic areas, and an outdoor firing range). In 5-10 minutes you'll see Shirley's on the right. Probably 20 minutes from the track, but worth it! It's 30 minutes from my house and that doesn't even come close to stoppng us. I'd go if they were an hour from here.

I might as well say it all again! When you're eating there, you're likely to see a fella in his 80s wearing an apron with flour all over it come out of the kitchen for a break. Kinda looks like "Uncle Jesse" from Dukes of Hazzards. That's Grant. Check out their "About Us" section on the link above.

Grant was shot through the left arm in the mountains north of Rome in 1944 as the 88th Infantry was attempting to retake a hill from the Nazis. He was the first to be hit, but he carried a fellow soldier who had been shot in the heel five miles out of the mountains."

Who else would you want to give your business to?

TRAVO!!

HOOTERS, Johnson City !!
Just don`t expect that particular Hooters to show the drags in their entirety. We went there after eliminations last year and halfway thru the race telecast they cut away to some Sunday night wrestling (WWE or whatever the hell it is now) program. You should have seen the looks on the faces of Force, Coil, Bernie, Prock and everybody else from Forces table when the tv switched! That place always has more wrestling fans than drag fans was what the waitress told us. Ask Reinhart, he was there. Johnson City Hooters...hillbilly heaven!

For really, really, good authentic Italian, try Alta Cucinas in Johnson City. Very nice restaurant, a little pricey but the service was excellent, they really made us feel welcome. Try and get a table outside.
