Willowbank Raceway will be the centre of Australian Drag Racing this weekend when it hosts the 41st Australian Nationals from September 15-17.
With huge Group One fields entered in one of the countries toughest Drag Racing events, Queensland’s own Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens has confirmed he will be bringing his amazing entourage of seven professional vehicles to thrill the crowds and take it up to the opposition.
Out of the Brett Stevens Racing pits at the Nationals there will be two Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Doorslammers (Brett Stevens and Kath Stevens), two Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Bikes (Brett Stevens and Troy McLean), the Kitten Car Care Products Funny Car (Brett Stevens), the Glenfords Racing Top Doorslammer (Steve Packman) and the S&S powered Pro Stock Buell (Dion Prowse).
Adding to this formidable line up will also be Drag Bike ace Pete Cochrane, who will be riding the team’s new prototype Brett Stevens Racing/S&S 124ci street bike in Modified Bike.
With the prestige of a Nationals crown on the line the team will be doing all they can to ensure that they not only secure valuable Championship points, but also take home the winners trophies.
“I won the Nationals at Willowbank Raceway in 03/04 on my Jack Daniel’s Racing Nitro Harley and would love to add another Nationals win to that,” Stevens said.
“Dion Prowse aboard the teams S&S Racing Pro Stock Buell is also a good chance after some great performances in Sydney a fortnight ago in the season opener where he won Pro Stock Bike in his Championship debut.”
“The competition in the professional Drag Racing brackets is now so tight though there are definitely no certainties, we will have to right on our game all weekend to get some good results.”
“In Sydney we had a couple of niggling problems with Kath’s (Stevens) Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Doorslammer and Steve’s (Packman) Glenfords Racing Top Doorslammer that we are confident we have now rectified.”
“Both of them are really itching to get more seat time and start mixing it up with big guns and at their current rate of improvement it won’t be long.”
“I am also focused on some good results and getting back in the Championship chase in Top Bike, Top Doorslammer and Top Alcohol in front of my home crowd after not competing in Sydney .”
Troy McLean, aboard the second Jack Daniel’s Racing Nitro Harley, is another man who is set for a big weekend three years after he debuted at the 2003 Nationals.
Since his first appearance McLean has competed in three full season of racing, with a runner up and 2 third places in the National Championships. He is also now the third quickest Top Bike rider of all time in Australia behind Perth ’s Jay Upton and team boss Brett Stevens.
“The 2003 Australian Nationals at Willowbank Raceway was where I made my Championship debut and I was runner up,” McLean said.
“It was a great start to my Drag Racing career so I have some really good memories of the event.”
“Hopefully I will be able to go one better this year, but it will be tough against Jay ( Upton ) as he is really on top of his game at the moment which he proved at the East Coast Nationals.”
“We will just have to get out there and step it up ourselves and see what we can do.”
