ENGLISHTOWN, New Jersey (June 24) – Brandon Bernstein and the Budweiser/Lucas Oil team made a strong qualifying effort at the ProCare RX Supernationals. With consistent elapsed times Friday and Saturday, the team earned the No. 4 starting berth for eliminations with a 4.500-second elapsed time at 331.04 mph.
Bernstein and his friend J.R. Todd were first round opponents on Sunday, both agreeing that it was too early in the day for two buddies to have to face each other in competition. At the finish stripe, a tick of a difference in reaction time earned Todd victory by a nose, 4.625/321.42 vs. Bernstein’s 4.620/318.39.
“The team did an excellent job this weekend,” said Bernstein. “I will work on sharpening my reaction time just a bit more. It’s important that we’re solid in the countdown to eight with seven events remaining before we start the next phase of the championship chase at the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indy.”
Bernstein is third in NHRA Top Fuel standings, 53 points out of the lead.
