BERNSTEIN REMAINS SOLID IN COUNTDOWN TO EIGHTAS ROLLERCOASTER YEAR CONTINUES IN DENVER

MORRISON, Colo. (July 15) – Last weekend in Bristol , Tenn. , the Budweiser/Lucas Oil team

was in party mode, popping Budweiser tops, celebrating their fourth victory of the season. This weekend in the thin air in the Mile-High city, driver Brandon Bernstein was a victim of tire smoke or loss of traction in the first round of race day competition.

Bernstein’s quicker reaction time (.072 second) against opponent Hillary Will (.118-second reaction time) couldn’t salvage the win. Will had a trouble-free 4.753-second elapsed time run at 309.77 miles per hour vs. Bernstein’s on the throttle, off the throttle 6.655/144.41 effort.

“It’s a continuation of our sort of feast or famine year,” said Bernstein. “We had a good qualifying effort, but it was very hot on race day and the track was tricky and slippery. Combine that with the lack of oxygen at this altitude and it’s tough to get a combination that will give you a solid eight-cylinder, traction-to-the-ground run.

“This is a tune-up that crew chiefs use once a year, so next week we’ll get back to business with our customary tuning combinations in Seattle .”

Bernstein qualified No. 6 at Bandimere Speedway with a 4.646/314.68.

He is a comfortable third in NHRA Top Fuel standings and countdown to eight, 156 points out of the lead.
