NORWALK, Ohio (July 1) -- The Budweiser/Lucas Oil team continued to show excellence in qualifying at the inaugural running of the Summit Racing Equipment Nationals, and were awarded their third Full Throttle $3000 check of the season for overall performance and consistency based on four rounds of qualifying.
The team earned the No. 3 starting berth for eliminations with a 4.554-second elapsed time at 325.37 miles per hour.
In the opening stanza of race day action, Brandon Bernstein faced off against Tony Schumacher. Though their elapsed times were closely matched, Schumacher crossed the finish line first with a 4.581/317.57 to Bernstein’s 4.587/327.35.
“The team has this car running strong and consistent,” said Bernstein. “I need to polish my reaction times, but we’re happy to be comfortable in the top eight with six races remaining before the field is set for the first stage of the championship chase.”
Bernstein is fourth in the countdown to eight.
“On a family note,” continued Bernstein, “we were there to support Dad this weekend, and we were real happy to see the Monster Energy/Lucas Oil team go to the final round. This was a break-through weekend for them.”
