Bradford Tough in the Clutch

"Well, we're playing on Sunday," laughed a relieved and happy Tom Bradford. After experimenting with a new clutch system for several races and the for first two rounds of Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying at Pomona, Tom and the Balbayis Asset Consulting/Hal's Speedshop team went back to the clutch set-up that they were using when they had such good success earlier in the season.

qualifying round 1
14th Tom Bradford right lane 7.142 at 188.62 mph

qualifying round 2
15th Tom Bradford left lane 7.265 at 182.87 mph

qualifying round 3
16th Tom Bradford right lane 7.303 at 179.88 mph

qualifying round 4
16th Tom Bradford left lane 7.145 at 184.45 mph

"Everything that we did for today was great," said Tom. "We had a really nice pass set for the third round, but going into third gear it took the teeth off of the third gear set. But we went a 1.09 60 foot and that was in the hunt.

"So we begged borrowed and stole to get parts for the transmission. We got that replaced and went out for the fourth round and put up another 7.14. It was a respectable run for that session. There was a really strong headwind in the session and we really didn't have any data to make a gearing change, but we needed a different gear.

"We're up against Andrew Hines again tomorrow and we feel good about our chances. I've had four solid green lights!" A round 1 upset of points-leading Hines on the day the championship is decided wound make for good TV, eh?
