I have to say that the boomer alBalooshi had in the 2nd round of qualifying was spectacular. Not normal for an Alan Johnson car. With all the parts flying off and everything else it could have been much worse than just losing an engine.
I thought the expression on Alan's face was priceless.

It was interesting in the interview with Alan, which rarely happens, that he mentioned he was testing a new clutch system and was getting pretty close to it working. To stay ahead you sometimes have to sacrifice some races to get the bugs out of new technology with the limited number of testing days NHRA allows.

We were standing at the fence in front of our pit and it let go right in front of us. It blew the injector hat right off the car. You are right about having to sacrifice a race to make a step forward. We struggled this weekend because we were trying something new. But even though we didn't qualify this weekend, it is going to benefit us in the long term.

so is AJR making progress?
and what is causing these failures?.....clutch parts? or espn's friday's sonoma
qualifying show talked about increased valve/port size?
albalooshi's failures remind me of the AJ/scelzi years (without the wins).

.Thats the shame of the test limit rule. Mr. Grey and the others should be able to test all they want, and NOT have to sacrifce points in doing so.

The only thing that gets us is the ability for well financed teams to literally buy a championship. You hire more drivers, build more test cars, and go a day or two before every national event, at the same track the national event is arriving at and test. Costs spiral out of control, and soon it's 6 million per car per race year, and then it's 10 million. Finding sponsors to pay 3 million per year per car is a tough gig already. Limiting testing is actually a good thing. Finding a good combination takes it's toll, but the strategy is when and where you do it.
