I was in a motel and caught the final and was so happy for Bob. I'm sure Jack was happy for him too.

Mike,is Walt still tunning Bobs car??? Great day for a great bunch of guys.Hopefully the second will be easier.

Yes Wally is still crew chief but we also have car chief Mike Stock working with Wally on the tune up. Honestly I believe Mike has brought a great deal of knowledge to the team, between him and Wally the have this car figured out. Most of the time the car comes back happy after a pass. We used the same motor in the car the whole weekend, just routine service. It did however lose oil pressure in the final round and kicked some rods out, that's why our et and mph fell off in that round. I didn't know that until the next morning when we went to service the car. Bode said it was on fire but he wasn't lifting

Eugene called me this afternoon, he's on his way home now.
He gave me some news that made me smile again, as if I haven't been smiling enough already. But I'll let him fill you in when he gets home tonight.

Congrats to all. Long haul and very well deserved. You will never forget the first and the feeling.

More of the epic little guy team winning would do wonders for the sport.

And Bob not caring about the lil/med/ or even if was a big fire is standard for F/C monke.... sorry I mean driver. They are taught by very smart crew chiefs to use foot/feet to cover little fire windows that way they are not seeing fire so therefore they must not be on fire. :D

And I think even if he was burning it to the ground he would have hopped out and rode in on the rear deck through the lights.

Good on ya Mr. Bode and the rest of the team. You definitely paid the dues for that win.

I finally got to watch the race last night... completely missed it Sunday, didn't record it, so got the re-broadcast and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed watching Bode get his first win. Everything about it was awesome. I also like Jack Beckman (particularly because my friends who are racers, even the sportsman peeps like him) and always like to see him win but who DOESN'T love to see the underdog win?
Seems to me that Bode has been creeping up to this all season long.
Really made staying away from the 'Mater since Saturday and recording it and waiting to watch it worthwhile. :)

Wow, What a response from all the nitromaters. I could not believe the response we got from the fans at the track, and now all of you on nitromater. It means so much to us to receive this much support from everyone, and for that we thank you. I wish all of you could have been there because it was a blast. I could not believe all the support we received from team owners / crew chiefs / crew members / race vendors and nhra crews. For a small team like ours to come out of there, with a win, was a dream come true. When Bob received his wally, and gave his acceptance speach, We all had tears in our eyes. This was defiantly one of the top highlights of my life. Bob did an awesome job of driving, and an awesome job of putting together a great team. You could not find a better group of guys to work with. Walt Przybyl and Mike Stock gave Bob a nice consistent race car that went down the track every lap on Sunday. I could not believe how many teams were on stand by if we needed them, but our guys turned the car every round, with 15 minutes to spare. We could not do this with out Alice Bode. She makes sure that we all eat very well, and makes sure that Bob backs the car up in the groove every time and she books all our flights. ESPN was following Alice around all weekend, filming and interviewing her for a segment about the back up girls that might be airing during the Indy race. Don't hold me to this though because you never know when this stuff ends up on the cutting room floor. The Drag Racer Magazine has been following the team around this year doing an article that is suppose to come out later this year. Bode received a call from nhra informing him that his team won the Full Throttle pit crew award and we will receive a $3000.00 check to split. Now I have tears in my eyes again. With this check and the bonus Bob gave us, I think I'm going to disneyland. Heck I might just walk, since I live next door to it.

Eugene, figures with all the races I go to, I end up missing it! I'm not surprised with all the attention Alice is getting, I doubt anyone at the track is! I just hope she doesn't need private security come Indy! Can't wait....

Congrats to the WHOLE BODE GANG!!!

We are very happy for all of you, Very Long Over Due & VERY WELL DESERVED!!!!

something i seemed to have noticed with bob's great victory; i'd like
other's opinions on this.

- other non-drag racing motorsport websites first report the familiar winners
from brainerd (larry, jeg, andrew) and list bob last with no mention of this
independent/underdog victory.........reaffirms my belief that we swim in a
small pool fairly unnoticed not only by sports media but even motorsports media

- as much as nhra tries to cram this 'top ten' points deal down our throats;
the biggest story from brainerd was bob's win; and may be the biggest story
at end of year, surpassing any of the professional points races and/or
champions (at least for true drag racing fans)

- nhra tv broadcasts will continue to over emphasize the points races for the next six races,
when in reality nhra just had a part time racer win one of
their major races, a feat arguably unattainable in irl or nascar.
i would use tv time to let the potential fan/customer know that the little
guy still has a chance over in the nhra, after all, the nhra landscape could
change dramatically if not for 3-4 team owners.

I know I'm way late in posting this but it was absolutely fantastic watching Bob Bode and his team win in Brainerd! I love watching the underdogs beat the high profile, high dollar teams.

It's stories like this that keep my love affair with NHRA Championship Drag Racing intact. In no other form of motorsports can a team show up with virtually no money and no sponsors, comparitively speaking and have a legitimate shot at winning!

Way to go Bob!! Now go win a few during the clowndown & really irk the suits in Glendora!

You and Bob both...

Check out this video, most of it is the same winners circle speech already posted, but the last 30 seconds or so is new... :D

Congratulations to the whole team! We were so thrilled to be able to celebrate your first win with you.

You are all the best!!!
That was cool Doug. You and moni are the best. Can't wait until next year.

I don't know how many of you have stayed after a race and watched the drivers receive there wallys, but Alan Reinhart does an awesome job interviewing them. He had all of us cracking up.

Wow that was First class! I rarely get to stay around for the Winner's circle because of my flight plans! When first timers get the chance to appreciate that it makes that all worth it!
