CRAP!!!
Not sure whom I wanted to meet most: Bob, Alice, or Eugene!!!
That sucks for the entire team!!! Sorry!:(:(

Having met Bob, Eugene and a few crew guys(Alice was at a Jr. dragster race with their son) at Brainerd last year; all I can say is they are some of the nicest, down to earth people I've met at the races. Sorry the SFR sponsorship didn't work out, and hopefully a good deal happens soon for them.

I'm not surprised. You would have to sell a ton of shirts to cover a nitro team's expenses. We sold a bunch of shirts that we make ourselves at our last two races which helped cover much our trip to Yakima and Medford. But our costs are a fraction of what Bode needs to get by.

You would think they would crunch the numbers before signing on the line, maybe there's probably more to this!

not necessarily, bob would have most likely run the same amount of events
as in years past, then an upstart business agrees to partner with him via
trackside apparel sales (i.e. nitrofish, racebricks) to pick up the tab for balance
of tour. SFR IMO is the one who had the most skin in the game, the forecasted
sales weren't there and the two parties agreed to split; perhaps to try again
in the future.

Sometimes you can 't crunch actual numbers. An assessment is made on what they think they might be able to sell, predict growth, popularity and try feed off each other. The name on the car make people want to buy apparel, which results in more funding for the car depending on the agreement.

This could have been a deal that ran its course as planned in the agreement. They may have had milestones in the agreement to have $X in sales by race 10 otherwise the deal is off.

Without intimate details it is hard to speculate.

How Many of you remember Wayne Stoelkel?? He ran the "Boogie Man" Alky FC in the 90's. I have never seen a Sportsman team sell as much apparel as his team did, even at Natl. events he would allow fans in his trailer to avoid getting busted by NHRA, but at Div. races you would see 3-4 people at his rig at any given time, buying Hats, Shirts, etc....

he told me he sold over $2,000 worth at some races! If you have a Nice looking car with a Theme, and a Nice Shirt/Hat to go with it, can work!

I've had this happen. You give the team a $20.00 donation, get a tour of the trailer & race car and then they give you a free T-shirt.

I would think that for sales out the back or your rig, with your only cost being the shirt, thats worth the trouble especially for an alky car.

Oh really, how many Pro teams sell that much, 3-4??

Back when we had a trailer on the midway, one vendor averaged $90/k an event. Of course they were always given the premier spot and allowed to sell items that other teams couldn't.

Several trailers (around 8) averaged between $15 - $30/K per event. Your driver is important, but your marketing hook is more important. Constant new and edgy merchandise always pushed sales. Many times the merchandise name was a bigger selling point than the team or driver, such as Nitrofish or RaceGirl.

Teams with just car/driver merchandise usually struggled to gross $5/k an event.

Bod is a good person and his family and team are top notch. I wish them all the best in achieving the goals they have set for themselves.

An apparel sponsorship usually only supplements support of a team, seldom can it carry the main load. But when managing a team you are looking for all the income you can get from every source you can imagine.

Virgil, I knew a gal who worked the Trailer for a TF team. Her husband was a member of the Pitcrew, but this was 2 years ago, she said they averaged maybe 20-25 shirts per event, they finally merged with other teams! At most races I go to if your not a JFR or a DSR car, or one of the Pro Stock hitters, tough making $$$ on souvenirs!
