And he`d have what, 9 T/F World Championships (Scelzis 4, Shoes 4 with AJ and KBs `96 title)? I`ll still never forget when he died and seeing the crash on the LA news.

Happy Birthday Blaine....we miss ya!

Blaine was my absolute favorite driver, I had followed him since the TAD days. You are not forgotten Blaine.

That's why I'm not so much a "fan" of the U.S. Army team as I am a deciple of Alan Johnson. Wherever AJ goes, I will follow. As shocking as it was to those who heard/saw it on the news.....It was nothing compared to being there. Heavy, heavy hearts that Labor Day weekend.

Happy Birthday, Blaine.....................

It was my first Indy and what a surreal experience. You know the danger and risk involved but you still just sort of expect that when you see a crash, the driver will be okay. How unbelievably tragic. I'll never forget seeing the 4.61, 309 mph come up on the board and then seeing parts flying.

In fairness to Scelzi, one his four was won in F/C with Neff. My bad

That’s exactly the way I feel. I don't have a favorite driver out there anymore, not one that I was as passionate about like Blaine. So it's all about following what AJ does.

I don't dwell on what could have been, I just try and remember what a talent he was, and he was more then a race car driver, I just wish I had the chance to meet him...

Blaine Happy Birthday to you!

That was one of the saddest weekends in drag racing ever.

Blaine & Elmer

RIP fellas..we all miss ya.

My Son still has the cylinder sleeve Blaine signed for him on a rainy Saturday in Columbus. What a nice guy he was.

I know I'll never forget it.. I lost my 22 yr old son in a MV Accident only a week earlier (9/6/96) When it happened, I said "Oh My God" & my wife asked what happened.. when I told her she said I'm sure Johnny will be with him asking questiions... I know you don't see the irony in that, but if you knew my son and how he was soooooo interested in TF & FC and would ask me a million questions about them...

I was announcing and I was crying as well. I will never forget any of that weekend, or the trip home.

This event stands out in my mind, not only due to the tragic loss of Blaine, but it was the first drag race that a very dear friend of mine, and her husband, attended. It was their first National event, at our urging (we did not go). My girlfriend called me giggling her tail off... she almost fell off the bench from the shock of the fuelers launching, she said. What a thrill.
Sadly, the next call I got was about how stoic and wonderful Blaine's wife was after the accident. She stayed on site, in their pit, and was incredibly awesome and nurturing, even then, trying to comfort Blaine's fan/friends.

Some of the most awesome people I have ever met . I talked to them in the staging lanes in Pomona when Travers was still on the side of the car , and yes they were running out of money . Talent was there in abundance , who would have known what was to come . It was the saddest moment in drag racing . That Johnson family is tops . We could have seen the most incredible chain of championships in history if it was not for the most unfortunate accidents in nhra history .

You are still sorely missed my friend . My heart still flutters with the good times we all saw , and the tragic accident still chokes me up . I know for a fact I am not alone in this . I hope you and Darrell are racing in heaven .

Blaine was my favorite TF driver next to KB at the time. I'll never forget seeing his crash on the 10 o' clock news. :(

I heard on another web page that the same turnoff nearly cost another TF driver his life some 17 years before Blaine's crash. That turnoff should have been "fixed" then.
