BERNSTEIN THIRD IN NHRA POINT STANDINGS;LOOKING TO GO ROUNDS AT INDY TO GAIN GROUND IN CHAMPIONSHIP CHASE

CLERMONT, Ind. – In his young career, Budweiser/Lucas Oil Top Fuel driver Brandon Bernstein has amassed an enviable 11 career victories and three runner-up finishes, a record he is very proud of. He credits his success to crew chief Tim Richards, Kim Richards and his teammates.

“If it weren’t for Tim, Kim and the team, I would never have been able to have the success I’ve enjoyed.

“Above all, I want to thank my dad for giving me the opportunity.”

An important addition to any NHRA drag racing driver’s resume is to be able to count the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals among his or her list of victories.

The Mac Tools U.S. Nationals Sept. 1-4 becomes very important not only to the winning driver, but because the Top Fuel championship chase is winding down, those teams that have a mathematical shot at taking home the season’s crown, will be focused on going rounds to accumulate as many points as possible.

As it stands, going into the 18th race of the 23-event series, Bernstein is third in Top Fuel standings, 16 points out of second place and 152 out of the lead.

“Our focus will be to go rounds, taking them one at a time,” said the second generation driver. “We have a chance to gain points if someone stumbles, but we also need to defend our position from those who are right behind us. With six races remaining, every round win is critical and difficult because of the caliber of competitive cars in our class.

“After the Memphis race, we went to Indy to test, as did most of the other teams. We worked on making some changes to our hot weather tune-up, and we feel we made some headway.

“The fans should really be enjoying the chase this year.”
