August 9, 2006 (Lake Ozark, MO) -- Barklage Racing is back on top and fighting strong for the last half of the 2006 race season. The AMS Pro Mod tour has enjoyed a much deserved break after completing the O'Reilly Midwest Nationals in St. Louis, June 23 - 25, 2006.
With a semi-final round appearance with Zach Barklage at Gateway International Raceway, the team was quick to move on to the next race. Taking the No. 1 qualifying position at the Super Chevy Show in Indianapolis, Indiana the second weekend of July, Zach Barklage has since set two different track records and won two races.
Zach first took the pole, set the track ET record and won the race at Kansas City International Raceway for the Milner Ford Fastest Doorslammer Race. Grasping the track record with a 6.20, and getting the win light against John Deflorian in the final round, Zach and team were excited to have the new 1957 Chevy lined out. Add to the win in Kansas City with win at Ozark International Raceway. Zach Barklage also took the pole, set the track ET record and won the race as well. Running a 4.04 on the 1/8 Barklage broke his own previous record of 4.06, and went on to win the race against Dennis Griffin in the final round. According to Zach Barklage, "It feels good. The car is starting to come around and it feels great. Hopefully we can keep it up."
Although Cody Barklage has been going rounds and doing well on the NHRA AMS Pro Mod tour, the youngest Barklage has taken a sort break from racing action. Sitting out the last two of three races in Indianapolis, and Kansas City, Cody was back on his game last weekend at Ozark International Raceway. The Lucas Oil Warpath GTO driven by Cody suffered major rear-end damage at the last NHRA National event at Gateway, allowing the youngster to enjoy some much deserved time-off.
Although Cody returned to competition, the GTO struggled in the hot conditions. With the new rear-end under the car, the team had to work hard to get a handle on the car. Despite the struggles last weekend, Cody will join his brother at the Super Chevy Show in Jolliet this weekend.
"This is just a minor inconvenience. We'll be back to normal soon. The car felt great the first 60 feet, the it just fell off," said Cody. He went on to comment "I've had a small break. It has it's flaws, but I don't think it will hurt me too bad. We're just going to go our next weekend and do our best."
Zach Barklage added, "We're going to try to do the same thing up there. We're going to go up there and try to run strong and see what happens."
The next race for Barklage Racing will be the Super Chevy Show, Jolliet, Il. The next stop for the AMS Pro Mod tour is the O'Reilly Mid-South Nationals at Memphis Motorsports Park, Memphis, Tennessee, August 18 - 20. Barklage Racing would like to thank Goodyear Tires, Lucas Oil, Goodson Tools, Taylor Cable, Torco Race Fuel, Master Formula, Pit Mat USA, Moreland Well Drilling, Weld Wheels and NGK Sparkplugs for their continued support.
