NEWAYGO, Michigan – The Etterman Racing team led by George and Jane Etterman have much to look forward to following the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Minnesota. Not only did they qualify in the top half of the field, they also made it to Sunday after a fist round victory over Division 5 hitter Kirk Williams running an elapsed time of 5.776 seconds. In the second round, the team met up with low qualifier Frank Manzo, an eight-time world champion. There Jonathan Johnson, driver, had two hundredths of a second hole-shot but was unable to parlay that into a victory as Manzo went 5.625 to Johnson’s 5.781 elapsed time. Despite the loss, Etterman Racing feels that they completed a very successful weekend amidst a consistent race car with five good runs.
“We had a good weekend,” says George Etterman. “We feel like we have our old race car back now and are having a great deal of fun again. You never want to lose, but Frank Manzo is a powerhouse who, when on a roll, rarely stumbles and is just a difficult draw. We did not expect the track to be quite as good as what it was, and we were bitten by it. Jonathan did his job on the tree and that is all we could ask for. They had the best car this weekend by going on and winning the race, but we have a hot rod again and will work hard to get a win before the year is out,” exclaims Etterman.
“This was one of those weekends that you walk away with your head up and a smile on your face,” proclaims Johnson. “We were very competitive and simply got beat. No excuses; Frank is a veteran and I can only hope to accomplish what he has within his racing career. The Etterman Racing Team could not be happier right now. Everyone on the crew is working well and having fun, and with that aura in the pits, good things will happen. I feel certain that the rest of the year will be exciting, not only for us, but our marketing partners as well. Topeka needs to hurry and get here!” concludes Johnson.
Etterman Racing will roll into Heartland Park Topeka for the Division 5 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Event from August 24-26. You can keep up with the results on www.dragracecentral.com.
