AUTOWEEK: Susan Wade on Maddi (1 Viewer)

ron paying it forward by hiring maddi is what the really cool story is. ron sure knew who he was looking for.
when you have a new sensation that is a crowd favorite, how do you measure it? how many folks were at first two races
because of soc. media interaction? i mean, how many attend either for the first time, or first time in many years
based on their appeal to a driver/s? did erica have this same frenzy a few years back? is maddi-mania ramping up to be
bigger than any of the force girls? i can't tell. pretty cool wave to be riding, hope it continues.

It's only a matter of time before she wins a race. Rob Flynn has that car on a rail. She has been to the semi's twice now. She keeps running into those Kalitta cars when she gets that far. If she gets past that, she will win a race.

Maddi has certainly been a breath of fresh air and someone who can certainly lead the NHRA and drag racing as a whole over the next 10-20 years. She has everything a sponsor would want, talent, looks, energy/enthusiasm, sincerity, and can easily get her hands dirty if needed. I loved the fact that when Capps was looking to expand he was wanting to find someone who grew up in the sport, cut their teeth in sportsman/alcohol ranks and not necessarily the driver with the biggest paycheck. He absolutely hit a homerun with Maddi

Agreed. Absolutely.

I wandered into the Gainesville Pro pits on Sunday evening after the rain-delayed finals had been completed. Teams were finishing packing up and not many people were about -- except for a long line at Maddi's pit that stretched more than the width of the aisle while she diligently and cheerfully signed autographs for all of them. I thought, this is just the very beginning. She seemed so sprightly and genuine. I hope she has the resilience to maintain this level of attention through what is bound to be a long, hot, frenetic season. It could wear anyone down.

NHRA at last has its own version of those rock-star-type, barely-out-of-teenage F1 drivers.

I am a big fan of the Gordon girls, as they are the real deal, not some phony affirmative action/DEI marketing creation. Those 2 girls know their way around a Top Alcohol Funny Car and could always be seen getting their hands very dirty working on the family TA/FC. Maddy still doesn't have a lot of seat time as a driver in the family TA/FC, or Ron's fuel dragster, but she seems to be doing really well so far. I wonder if sister Macie has changed her mind about possibly driving the family TA/FC in the future? I see she is racing in Top Dragster now and went a few rounds last weekend in Phoenix.

Wasn't it last year/two years ago when it was all about Ida? .......
yes, and IMO it still is, but subdued when not driving, which is now year #3.
hey, has anyone seen joe maynard at the races this year? supposedly involved with capps program/hospitality?
