[coverattach=1]Plainfield, CT – The Red Eagle Racing team is excited about heading to the Super Chevy Show Nitro Coupe race this weekend at Virginia Motorsports Park. As the team travels to Virginia, team owner/driver Paul Athey sits atop the Nitro Coupe points standings after two #1 qualifiers, a win and a runner-up.
In 2008, Athey and the team qualified #2 with a 4.06 behind Tommy Gray’s 4.04 at the Virginia Motorsports Park event. The field at last year’s event was very tight, but unfortunately the eliminations got rained out last year. With the weather forecast for this weekend looking good and with many of the same teams from last year heading to VMP, this should be a great race.
“We had a good trip out west at Fontana and Tucson,” says Paul Athey. “We feel very confident in our car and tune-up and are looking for the same consistency this weekend that we had at the first two races. The competition will be fierce as always and it will be a very interesting weekend!”
Among the teams attending will be Paul Athey, Jerry Hunt, Ken Walsh and Doug Winters. Hunt and Walsh are only a few points behind Athey in the standings, so there is a good bit riding on this race. Even though it is early in the season, the points battle is already heating up.

Paul Athey and Red Eagle Racing would also like to thank the following partners: Mohegan Sun, West Coast Choppers, Salvadore Auto, Webber Engineering, Red Line Oil, Moroso, VP Race Fuels, Computech Transmissions, Fragola Perfomance Systems and FK Bearings
