Paul Athey sidelined for remainder of 2008 season with leg injuries

Plainfield, CT – Paul Athey’s racing season came to an abrupt end on Wednesday 6/18 when he was struck by a garbage truck while riding his 2008 Harley Davidson Cross Bones. The truck crossed into Athey’s lane while going around a corner. Athey just returned home yesterday from the hospital where he’d been since the accident. The driver of the truck did not stop at the scene.

Athey was riding to his job at Mohegan Sun when the incident occurred and amazingly kept his bike upright and never hit the ground. The incident left Athey with numerous broken bones in his left leg and foot, a dislocated ankle, his foot was crushed in two places and other injuries.

“It’s not good when you look down and see your foot bent more than 90 degrees out and bones sticking out of the skin”, states Paul from his recovery bed. “I fought to keep the bike upright and was determined to not go down. Once I was clear of the truck, I slowly made my way over to the guardrail and leaned up against it until help arrived.”

Paul Athey and his team are trying to determine if they will put another driver in the seat of his car for the rest of the year. They will make a decision on this within the next week.

Paul Athey and Red Eagle Racing would also like to thank the following partners: Sterling Homes, West Coast Choppers, Salvadore Auto, Webber Engineering, Red Line Oil, Moroso, VP Race Fuels, Computech Transmissions, Fragola Perfomance Systems and FK Bearings.
