London, Ontario, September 6, 2006 3 Straight IHRA Funny Car Champion Rob Atchison returns to the Amalie North American Nationals in hopes of ending his winless slump. “ Even though the Erickson Monte Carlo has run some impressive numbers we sure miss being in the Winner’s Circle,” states Atchison. We have been pleased with the performance lately and we are just tweaking it a bit to get our consistency level to where we want it. My dad and crew have been working feverishly this year trying to sort out the new combination and I think we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The past few races we have managed to gain some ground toward the championship but it would be real sweet to get a victory here in Epping.
We were real happy to see New England Dragway renew for three more years because the great New England Fans are really deserve to get the chance to see us race here. This year the points race is extremely close with Mark Thomas leading by just 5 points and Thomas Carter trailing us by just 25 points. Local star Fred Tigges is always a strong runner here at his home track so it will be real exciting this weekend. Fred has stuck his nose into the Championship fray the last couple years and has made a big impact on the points standings. With a listed track elevation listed at 90 feet above sea level with the right air conditions record runs in all the classes are possible. The three straight IHRA Funny Car Championship Team is made up of Crew Chief Bob Atchison, Maxine Atchison, Kyle Harris, Les Mellows, Shelly Miller, Pat Ryan and Dennis Smith. The team Mascots are Chevy and Bailey the team dogs.
