London, Ontario, July 19th, 2006 IHRA Funny Car Champion Rob Atchison returns home with the Erickson Manufacturing Monte Carlo to compete in the IHRA Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park.“ It is always nice coming to our home track and racing in front of our many fans,” stated Rob Atchison. Last year we had the privilege of be able to put a program together and volunteer our car to honor the Veterans by racing with the “Year of the Veteran” and Torchbearers logo on the car. It was really special to see how great the fans were to the Veterans and how much they enjoyed their stay at the track. It was great of IHRA, Toronto Motorsports Park and Veteran’s Affairs Canada to lend their support to us so we could honor such a great group of people. Winning the event last year and being with Charlie Fox in the Winners Circle was a special time for my whole team.
The Winner’s Circle has eluded Rob and the Atchison Racing Team thus far in 2006 and maybe coming home is what they need to turn things around. “We are all positive but it has been kind of frustrating that the car has been so inconsistent from round after round so far,” stated Atchison. We have some more ideas that we are going to try to make the car fast and consistent every pass the way we ran the last three seasons on our way to our championships. The three time IHRA Championship Team is made up of Crew Chief Bob Atchison, Maxine Atchison, Kyle Harris, Les Mellows, Shelly Miller, Pat Ryan and Dennis Smith. The team Mascots are Chevy and Bailey the team dogs.
