Atchison ends Drought at Epping

London, Ontario, September 11, 2006 . London Ontario ’s Rob Atchison driving the Erickson Manufacturing 2006 Monte Carlo returned to the Winner’s Circle at the Amalie Oil North American Nationals at Epping NH . “We really wanted to get back on track and win a race,” stated Rob Atchison. We have struggled with the new combination all year and even though we have been fast we have lacked consistency. It feels really great to get the monkey off our back and get to lift the “Ironman” in the air again. The victory came in record fashion as Rob’s 5.72 @ 249.01 mph first round pass added the miles per hour record to his elapsed time record set last year at the World Finals.

The Atchison Racing Team now sits atop the IHRA/E Max points race with a 38 point lead with 3 races to go. “We knew if we could start winning the points chase would take care of itself,” stated Atchison . We started the event 5 points behind Mark Thomas and narrowed it to 2 points after qualifying # 2. When Mark lost in the semi-finals that opened the door and this time we were fortunate enough to take advantage of it. The Atchison Racing Team will take a 38 point lead into the IHRA Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park Sept 22-24. We have to work hard real hard in September because of the makeup of the Toronto race from July. We have 3 races in 4 weeks and luck for us the one race is close to home at Toronto followed the next weekend at Budd’s Creek.

The victory also marked another milestone in Rob Atchison’s career as career victory # 17 tied him for third all time in IHRA career victories with Jimmy Rector. “Anytime you can have your name mentioned with Jimmy Rector you have accomplished something really special. Mark Thomas, Von Smith and Jimmy Rector have been legends and past World Champions in the IHRA Funny Car class.
