I loved the game "Dragster" for Atari 2600 as a kid, the long held record of 5.51 seconds has been thrown out after 35 years! I am not a gamer any more and haven't been for quite some time, but I find this whole story fascinating, both the lengths someone would go to claim the record for so long and the lengths others went to disprove the record.

I didn't know it was a "record". I know I've hit 5.51 multiple times, but could never get it to go lower. This had to be, what 30 years ago??

The key was once you started keep hitting the "shift" to keep the tach as far in the red as possible without blowing up. If memory serves just shifting at the shift points would get you somewhere around a 6.1.

I believe the quickest I ever did was 5.79...that seems like a 1000 centuries ago.
Tony, I agree. I'm thinking that game was more like, 40 years ago, no? And I remember dipping into the fives but don't remember my exact ET, 5.69 comes to mind but, you know the older you get, the faster you were!

I watched this video the other day Chris, like you say, it was interesting to what lengths people will go to be king in a relatively niche world.
