friend of mine lives in scottsdale, went two years as spectator,
i think has been 3 now as registered buyer. i think he has only purchased
once in 3 years, but pays the fee every year anyways.
he is absolutely hooked on the event.

Cool to see and be a part of. Bring some $$ though, and I don't mean to buy a car either. Big bucks for all that attend.

There is some other auctions in the area at the same time. And we get some added attractions at the local pop stand car shows that week.

PS. Let us locals know when you get into town, we can have a cold one.

Thinking about going this year as a "spectator" ; anyone have some insight?

I've been once with a friend who used to do the whole thing - motorhome at the event, bidder's passes, etc. Great seats, free food and drink and a great view of the stage. Keep getting "invitations" from BJ to be a bidder - if my math was right, cost for two floor bidders seats (includes parking passes and lots of perks) was $1500 - don't send your check in until you establish a $50,000 line of credit.
"Spectators" - $20 a day admission plus parking (which is a nightmare at Westworld). You do get free range to a lot of really cool cars and displays outside of the tent. Trying to watch the auction inside the tent would be like looking at cars on the finish line from the starting line of a drag strip!
And . . . you're in "Snottsdale" - everything is very expensive.
The auction has become an endless parade of muscle cars and "Restorods". You'll see cars you can't find anywhere else, but I'm not sure this is worth the hassle any more.

I thought after last years fiasco I though BJ was pulling the event from WW and moving it to Vegas, guess they changed their minds.

I have been the last three years. The first year we went only on Wednesday and the last two years we have gone on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday we usually go after 5:00 PM what they call Happy Action Hours. After 5 pm you get in for around $10.00 and for all day it is around $25.00.
The prices go up as it gets closer to the weekend.
On Tuesday we just look at all the displays they have in the vender area and the premier auction cars on the other side of the tent. It can take several hours to look at all the vendors and cars. There is usually a large Ford display area with new cars on display. Ford also offers a Drag Racing simulator with two Mustangs. You have to enter to be able to drive the simulator, when you enter you can give them you cell phone number and they will call if your name is drawn.
The cars that are outside will take all day to be able to look at all of them. There are several food vendors outside also so you don't have to go back into the main tent to get something to eat. Inside they usually have a Famous Daves BBQ, and outside there is Alice Cooperstown and many other food vendors.

I had also heard the event was going to be moved to Vegas. I didn't really hear all the reasons but one of the one's I did hear was that Scottsdale is just a very expensive place to visit for an extended period of time. For those that are really bidding though, it probably isn't a drop in the bucket. It is amazing there is still money for this in this economy though.

They just had an event in Vegas ! They just added it to the line up of Scottsdale and Florida .
I can live with the TV but like any car show !
Well you know a fix is a fix to an addict !
