Angie McBride Gets By In Houston

Angie McBride went into Houston Raceway Park as a rookie. Never having rode her Buell on the track before, McBride was a bit hesitant going into qualifying on Friday.

Struggling a bit during Friday’s session, McBride would end up in the 13th position going into Saturday. Which with NHRA’s new qualifying rules meant that she wasn’t qualified. Having to run within the top-four quickest numbers on Saturday in order to race on Sunday, McBride remained calm and collective as she focused on the task at hand. Running a 7.175 et at 185.08 on her last and final qualifying pass, would put McBride into the show as she kept her 2008 qualifying streak going.

Running out of the No. 15 spot, McBride would face off against Chip Ellis. Cutting a great light and holding three hundredths past the tree, McBride looked as if she would upset Ellis until her Buell drifted out of the groove and straight to the center line. McBride would be forced to abort therefore losing the round.

“I’m a little disappointed,” said McBride. “I ran so well in Gainesville and then just lost my focus a bit here in Houston. I learned a lot from Matt (Smith, teammate) this weekend and I will be ready for Atlanta.”

McBride sits seventh in the POWERade Pro Stock Motorcycle Championship point standings and will race again in the three weeks with the rest of the field.
