Angelle announces retirement

Well, surely, Shirley's not gonna be happy about this. :o

I wish her the best. Hope everything works out for her.

But.........

Don't bet your farm that if someone comes up to her, and offers her a deal to drive a decent car or bike, that she'll turn it down flat.;)

If it makes her happy then more power to her. I'll miss seeing her racing though.

:( I am sad to see her go. Had hopes she would come back. :(

But....

I am happy for her plans in her personal life and wish her well.
Come back and visit us sometime Angelle.

It was a little sad to read that article. Watching her race is what took me to Columbus every June. Even when I could no longer make it phyiscally to the track, I followed her wins. You know you have made a difference when people know you just by your first name ANGELLE

I'll never forget being @ Etown in 2007 when she ran the first 6.80 PSM Run @ 6.871 a record that stood until Houston 2009 and is Still the Raceway Park PSM Track ET record. I was recording it and put it up on youtube back then ("rule" wasn't enforced back then), but then after I deleted my profile a few months ago, and that video went with all the rest. that was during a weekend that I predicted because of the great conditions all the track records would be broken and a national record would be set, and other than FC Speed, PSM Speed, TAD ET & Speed & Nitrous PM ET & Speed (not one nitrous Pro mod that year contested, all blown except from Troy Coughlin's Turbo entry), every other track record was set along with the PSM National Record.

Very sad to see the 3x champ calling it quits...I was hoping that one day soon she would return. Angelle has a huge fan base and I sure hope she makes it to a few events to sign autographs and chat with some of us. Girl, good luck in life !!!

We already knew she was working on renewing her nursing license and I think that the failed partnership with Shirley simply sealed the deal. Nothing wrong with wanting to build a family and spend time with them, more power to her.

I find it odd that any racer announces their Retirement? If a sponsor's nowhere to be found they still need to work, unless they are independently wealthy! Unless she's basically saying she no longer has any desire to Drag race for a living?

it's sad to be a racing fan now when drivers/owners have to retire because of failure to net up a sponsorship with this only getting worse economy. While trying to no be too political, I wish there was an "I hate them Muck-Throwing politicians" Party because that's what the gov't is all about since the turn of the century. Politicians who like to throw muck at each other and fail to do what is needed, when somebody tries to do something that Could work they get pelted by all this "muck" by the others.

I don't think it's no longer having any desire for drag racing for a living, but pursuing a life that is even more rewarding. Marriage and Motherhood. Drag racing full time takes A LOT out of your regular family life. Few do it successfully and even then there is a lot of strain. The ones that have it easiest are the ones whose spouse and family travels with them and even that is very hard.

Marriage and family is a huge sacrifice and so is drag racing full time. Two big sacrifices take a lot of a person as a person.

I'm happy for her, to be able to make the decison to focus on her family and her life. Maybe she'll come back later, maybe she won't but right now she's focusing on the cornerstone of the future generations...a family.

and part of what I say is speaking from personal experience.

I spent four years of high school traveling the bracket, divisional, and nationals in the region. I missed out on a lot of things that 'normal' people do pursuing that dream and while I know I can't get THAT time back, I can change how I plan things in the future.

I do think its different for the women to handle it as opposed to the men.

I really miss having Angelle out there, she's one of the most popular racers out there. Seriously, when people outside of the sport are asked about Drag Racing, Angelle is one name that is recognizable by many, right there with Shirley, Big Daddy, Snake, etc.

I talked to her in Dallas 2008 and asked her to come back to posting on the Mater, and not to let a few negative posters run her off. She appreciated it.

Racers never retire, they just take occasional vacations. They think they can retire, but it's in your blood and on your mind 24/7. I've quite probably 25-30 times in the last 35 years.

sounds like a pity party to me! top fuel deal with Shirley fell through so lets retire and tell the world I am quitting so we get one more "but we miss you"! here's your quarter Angelle ,call someone who cares.. . .

Well, I for one, care so I'll take that quarter and tell you where to put it ;)

Angelle is/was good for the sport and I will miss her. Hell, I missed her last year. She is deserving of a happy life and if she decided to return, she will make many of her fans just as happy.

Here's to you, Angelle!
