I work for M&M /Mars and some of our pet food brands are Pedigree, Whiskas, Sheba in the US. We process ALL of our own pet food unlike other brands who go to a company like Menu, which processes food for a lot of store brands, as well as many of the main brands. They are located in Canada.
This whole situation is positively frightening. We rely on brand names to have researched and to produce the very best quality of food for our pets. I used to use Iams for my 13 year old Old English before he died, because he had special needs and that brand offered them. When I found out that IAMS kills animals in their testing, I stopped immediately. Talk about a breach of consumer trust. If you don't believe me, Google
Iams kills. You'll find out more then you ever wanted to know about the extremes that company goes to. We, on the other hand, have a unit in Waltham, England, devoted to research & development of all of our pet foods.
WALTHAM - Bringing the science to life
I saw a political cartoon in the paper yesterday. It was good ol' Charlie Brown bringing out Snoopy's supper dish. On the dog house there's a note from Snoopy which read.... eating at McDonalds (or BK, I forget) until my food is safe. Not verbatim, but you get the picture.
