<P> BRAINERD, Minn. (August 10, 2008) – Alexandria, Minnesota's Adam Goebel was selected as the 16th NAPA AUTO PARTS Honorary Crew Member of the 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season today at the 27th annual NHRA Nationals at Brainerd (Minn.) International Raceway.
"This is the first drag race I've ever attended and I'm definitely hooked," said Goebel, who owns four NAPA AUTO PARTS stores in the Alexandria/Minneapolis area. "It was very exciting and I was extremely impressed. We arrived here Friday and have had a fantastic time. I've seen a lot of my customers here this weekend. I'll definitely be back next year."
Chris Wall, sales manager for the Minneapolis NAPA AUTO PARTS distribution center, chose Goebel to be the honorary crew member for the Brainerd event. "We selected our top 20 store owners from Owatonna and Minneapolis, based on purchases through the year, to come to the NAPA V.I.P. pit area today. Then we put 10 names in a hat and drew one out and Adam was the lucky winner."
While Goebel's crew-member duties didn't include turning any wrenches or changing the oil, he did help escort the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car to the staging lanes in the team's Dodge Durango tow vehicle for the first round of eliminations on Sunday and also helped retrieve the car at the end of the track following driver Ron Capps' run. Goebel had an up-close-and-personal view of the NAPA crew as they worked on the car and enjoyed a private tour of the team transporter and pit area. Goebel also met the entire NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car crew and received a NAPA team jersey. He also enjoyed the amenities of the NAPA hospitality area throughout the day.
NAPA AUTO PARTS distribution centers at each NHRA event during the season have different criteria for choosing the persons who are potential NAPA AUTO PARTS Honorary Crew Members.
