Announcing is one of the most mentally taxing things you can do at a racetrack, not to mention all the research and extra curricular activites he does. To do it 20 + times a year, multiple day events for 30 something years, plus the travel... I completely understand why Alan would need to take a break.
I just clocked up 20 years in announcing last year and I'm winding back from doing 150++ events a year (pre-covid) to around 20-30 now.
A lot of people wondered who the voice of the NHRA was going to be after Steve & Dave, Bob Frey and Lewis Bloom stepped away - Alan now joins the very short list of passionate, informative and extremley professional announcers and hosts that the sport has been lucky to have over the years.
